I was running the viper 8.5 motor but switched to a tekin 8.5 gen2 cause my viper motor feels like it has 25% drag break on which I have no drag brake in my esc. Problem is my car does not seem to have the punch to clear jumps. I mean it does clear them but it is a struggle. Guys running 10.5's seem to have more punch and basically the same speed as I do. Running a 4.2 with the stock spur and a 23 tooth pinion. My lipos are good and fully charged

Try this.

Firmware a55 (if it's not. Stop here and go get it updated. a55 unlocked a huge amount of power.)

Reset Radio EPA to 100 for both forward and brakes and rebind the ESC to the radio.
Forward PWM about 9,000mhz
Forward Punch 100%
Dynamic Braking disabled
Break PWM 2500mhz
Break strength 80%
Drag Brakes 10%
Deadband Narrow
endbell timing 30 deg
Geared 23/81 or 24/81 on B4/RB6 platform.

The Forward pwm is preference. The higher the number the smoother it will feel. I personally run it at it's highest setting but it's something you have to play with.
Brake settings are also strictly preference. Play with the brakes and get them to the point where you no longer have to think about them.

Bob thanks again for your help today. I did like how the car felt going tru all of the trigger pull. The VTX8 esc was really smooth.

Glad you like the ESC. :)

Nick, Are you sure that was for 2wd mod buggy? Blinky mode, no timing? Seems too tame for 4wd at the worlds...

We were crazy fast with 6.5 motors, no timing needed. Actually asked both Lee and Travis if they wanted to try boost and they said no.

Page 3---- no way!!! ;)

question on the waterproof VTX8.

How do you recommend maintenance on it after a session where it gets wet? I am dropping one into my daughters Tekno SCT410 so she can still run it around during the winter. She is not going to be plowing through the snow though, just on surfaces already leveled but still may have snow on them.

Nick have you heard any word on the 1/8 motors coming in soon?

Are there any particular ESC set ups for 1/8 buggy people are using with buggy?

Hope so... Talked to Travis Amezcua last weekend at the NEIC event where he was running one. He was super quick!

They are fast. I was running a pre production 1900kv and it was faster than the other brand that I ran before.

urluzn - I see light at the end of the tunnel, still in the tunnel, but I see light at the end ---- in terms of 1/8 motors available. Travis was running the VTX8/VF4.45 motor at the NEIC event - came within about 3 inches of winning that race on the last corner!!!

Cain - I would use an air can or compressor to blow off the electronics, dry it off as soon as you can. Don't let anything sit and have a chance to find its way somewhere it shouldn't be.

I'm currently running a VTX10R-BE in my 17.5 buggy. I'm considering moving that to the DEX410 I'm building now and getting a VTX1 for my 17.5 because it's smaller and lighter.

I know someone mentioned using it earlier. Am I going to notice it being slower/less punch if I got from the 10R to the 1?

Wildcat1971 11-14-2013 08:42 AM

nah, but your servo might be slower. The vtx1 has a lower power bec.
The vtx10 and vtx1 also have high resistance than the 10r, but I doubt you would ever notice it.
BEC voltage: 4.5~5.5V

Are there weights for the Viper ESC's somewhere that I'm missing on the website?

Curious what the actual weight savings would be between the VTX10R-BE and VTX1?

I think using the VTX1 in my 2wd buggy helps me - it has wicked quick steering as it is -- if I have more voltage going to the servo, don't know that I could keep up!!! (then again I am getting old....)

Thanks for the answers Wildcat!

Wildcat1971 11-14-2013 11:22 AM

the orange vtx10 is not much more weight, and has the stronger bec. I personally would go that route unless I raced 1s onroad
