I run the 4PL with high speed turned on. It's the slowest of the common radios as far as I know.
The radios that I have personally seen affected:
M11x
M12
4PK
DX3S (or what ever Spektrum's best radio is)
KO's newest radio (the god awful ugly one)
These are the ones that I have seen it affect.

curious, do you think if you dropped your pinion size say a tooth or 2 and then made up top end using boost at a higher RPM range could give you what you want?
When I did something like this at least with my Tekin 540 4 pole 4000Kv motor on the SC10 4x4 I had at one time, I found that it dropped temps, I had plenty of punch, but now had the top end I was looking for. I only used like 5 degrees of timing at the higher RPM range as well.
the 550 2 poles from what I have seen for setups that the ESC I was using at the time had listed for them showed much more timing usage than what I was doing.
Maybe that could help?

Tony - the update from a30 to a55 did open up more power to the system and also updated the calibrate settings for better calibration process.
Just wanted to note also - the comments about the new radio's with the "high speed" modes. We have seen different results with different radio and people with this -- seems a bit inconsistent overall right now. Some people have reported an issue and others using the same radio, have no issue. I have seen a few people with other esc's have the same type of questions, with similar situations.
Ultimately, there is no standard for the signal, its range and how it calibrates between the radio and receiver. Every radio company has things that are similar and little different. Its sometimes amazing that all these different systems "talk" to each other at all. But we are always watching what is going on in case we need to adjust anything on our end.

My VTX8/4.5 are in the shop... So running my back up system. Copperhead-R w/ 5150 KV. I've seemed to loose my cheat sheet/ Setup sheet for it. I'm going to be running a big open track Saturday. So was thinking profile #5, (MIP Ten-SCTE) but what should I run for gearing? I have the 39T MIP Spur installed. Looking for a pinion starting point.

Profile 1, stock settings, change brake settings to suit your style (i.e. if you want harder brake feeling). This is the way I set mind up to start, then adjust a little as you feel you need.
