Hey Monte,

A few engine tech questions, and many to come

- What are the typical trans/boost/crank durations in a good running 3 port off road engines?
- What durations would you tweak for overall performance if run time was not a concern?
- What are you thoughts on bypass ports(below the transfers)? Advantages?

-Nova on-road engines. What is the advantage of the dished piston used in the higher end engines(35+, Flash, Keep etc)?

Measure them yourself and you will see , best 3 port is os speed of course

Lol, try again

i will comment on this , its very odd these "bypass" ports ,i like to refer to them as turbulence inductors as i believe what they do is create a sort of pressure loop from the hole through the underside of the piston and under the sleeve then through to intake ports , making its own scavenging loop almost . Funny thing is i have had engines run better with the +2 sleeve and have had engines run better that dont have +2

the dome dish piston imo creates a better flowing combustion ball as engine reaches the upper rpm range plus only the full machined pistons are made dome/dish where as the micro cast pistons are flat and a lil more brittle

Thinking about a new motor for next year. I currently run a P5XL with no mods. I have been happy with it overall. Some of the guys I race with bought your fully modded Fuzion X5 lightning and they are NICE. So, should I go with your FM P5 or the X5?

what kind of mileage do you see on average with that setup?

On a medium sized track with some slow corners (read 180's) with my heavy trigger finger I can pull over 9 1/2 minutes. If i soften the clutch and be nice I can get very close to 10 1/2 minutes, sometimes more. The x5 FM is very smooth engine. Its deceiving, almost looks slow because you don't get a bunch of wheel spin, it just hooks up and goes. The mid range is very strong, and on a average sized to longer straight it pulls away from buggies and will match the top end of a Speed 2 that the OS fanboys claim is the greatest engine since the invention of nitro!
in general if your good with a tune 10 minute stops should be no problem once broken in.

Forgot to mention this is on a Mugen MBX7, which while better then the MBX 6 it's not the greatest. Still need to pick up a X7R for next year.

After bench break in follow up break in

Before you do anything get all your fuel lines routed and ready to hook up ,do not hook them up just yet , put fuel in tank , blow through pressure line for 5 - 6 sec , with fuel line in a rag or just hang off side of car ,then hook up to carb and, preheat ,open throttle slide all the way blow through pressure line to prime engine with fuel then hook pressure line on pipe

With engine now preheated and primed ,fire it up , give it a bit of high idle throttle for 30 sec or so , get lsn and idle set ,leave hsn for now , do not leave lsn excessively rich!!!! This will blow front bearing

Now set car on ground , run it around but do not over rev , keep head temps between 200-225 , just be nice to your engine , it will perform great and last you a long time if you take care of it

Preheat ,leave hsn a lil rich ,done

Enjoy!!!

Biedle, today my x3L with a filled crank was making the spec 2 boys cry. we have a small double jump then a curve before we run over the bridge, well I was just getting a feel for the new layout and seeing what I could get away with and what I couldn't, well needless to say I was able to skip the curve and be lined up for the bridge, after the track owner caught on he came up to me and said for the championship there would be a gate put up there to stop it Only one other person made it and he had a reds 5 port, the spec 2 guys kept trying and failing, landing in the grass and having to run over the pipe Maybe why I got 4th I wasn't even trying, just trying to get a feel for the track and mess with my setup. Besides the reds 5 port my bonitto also made the jump. On the long straights my fusion was hangin and passing the spec 2's, even on the short run up I had plenty of punch with the 021/2096 silver kyosho shoes with .1 springs. BTW 8 minute run times with the hottest Odonnel plug and about 95 degrees today. Felt lazy didn't feel like messing with the tune and running medium or cold plugs. Last time I ran a medium I got 9.5 minutes on a tank with a little left and with a cold I was able to come in after the 10 minute mark from anywhere on the track so about 10.5

Now if I can just get my 5 port P/S/R from Monty I will be able to see what a 5 port fusion is all about

Love my fusion engines!

Monty will a 7 port fusion P/S/R work in my Bonitto when it is time, or will I need to also get a new crank and such?

Is it great when you start to walk an engine that costs $200 more than a Fusion X . Then when they find out But because they can't wrap their head around tuning they stick with the over priced engine.
