My truck I have a 13.5 in and coming from nitro it needs more guts, my buddies truck has a 10.5 and is easier to drive I think because its got more guts and top end.
So my question is what is the best motor size to run in the mod class, small track

the 10.5 might work out for you..

i am going to the 8.5 in my my mod truck just because we will race the full track here in my town and half the 8th scale track when i go to cvr.

micrors4guy 11-15-2009 07:47 AM

the motor size will depends on how you drive really. I run an 8.5 because I am very smooth and careful with my finger. If you have a heavy or nitro finger go with a 10.5 and gear it up. I think a 9.5 would really be money in an open corr truck, but I have yet to find one.

if castle makes a sensored 4600 that would be a 9.5 motor
since its between the 8.5 and 10.5 in kv.

i love the way my 4600 is its just not smooth.

yup same here. had the 5700 and it wasnt very smooth. ditched that for a tekin 7.5 and 10.5 setup.

a lot of that has to do with the sensored vs. sensorless and race conditions where you're constantly on/off throttle. there's also difference between the manufacturers. i went from a novak gtb to the speedpassion gt and there was a huge difference imo.

How much for one just like that one????? I am the HillBilly Redneck at the race tracks around here, because all the tracks are in a city aleast an hour away and I definitly stand out, big jacked up 4x4, covered in gravel road dirt next to all the city boys commuter cars, skoal and wranglers dont help. They would just crack up to see me run a body like that.

So yal think a 7.5 would be to much???? Thats what I was thinking of getting, my buddies truck I set up the same as mine and the 10.5 is so much better, but his truck still needs alot more IMOP

Tyler101 11-15-2009 06:51 PM

I have a 7.5 in mine and it is a blast!!! I have goosebumps on the back but need a bit more forward bite so I have added some weight and the 1 degree toe blocks so we will see this weekend if it helps :) I do get painted as having a heavy throttle finger but I am working on smoothing it out...

if you are a driver who can run for 7-8 mins without a mistake then go for the 7.5. You can always turn the epa down. However you will lose some of the feel of the motor by doing that.
If you are someone who makes a bunch of mistakes stay with a 10.5 as it will be easier to drive and keep in control.

I got a smooth throttle, I just got labeled a heavy finger because I would run my Jammin on the verge of no control to get TQ's, the diffs would be unloaded and the car drifting and I wouldnt back out of it, and if there was a double double jump I would make it a triple single or a single, I wouldnt back out to some sick air. I run C6 RB which has alot of bottom punch and my exit out of a corner is untouchable. So I am use to running alot of power and a loose car, which I think is my problem with this truck. It handles awesome, I cant make is slide or drift, heck I can even get it out of shape anywhere except when someone gets into me. But it feels like it needs kicked to get going and has trouble making jumps sometimes with out a run at it, and down the straight I got time to get some lunch and come back before I get to the end. Its like slow motion, its so slow paced compared to what I am use to. I need something to make the truck stay on the verge of out of control. If I can get the truck to have just a little more than I think I can handle then it will be perfect.
