What motor are you running? What do you have the endbell timing set at? For 17.5 TC 3.8 - 4.0 FDR works well for most motors. Your ESC seems a little warm but your motor seems like it's running hot....

I'm not familiar with that kit, but some kits allow you to flip the gears to change direction of the transmission.

I've never seen a V3 HW ESC not want to enter calibration mode. Only HW exception was very early releases of the 1S Xerun with V1 blinky software.

Can you perhaps post a video of what your doing?...
