I seem to remember Randy saying 194 would be a bit slower for TC and thats certainly what i found. It just seems to lack top end compared to 189 and seeing as 198 and 194 dont bring any real "TC"...

I generally aim for 65 degrees celcius and if it comes off at anything over 70 i'd be looking at changing it to slightly lower gearing.

If you're told to gear it down, the FDR should be higher. So from say 7 to 7.5 or so. that means using smaller pinions as you say.
