You'd think firmware is very different in the way the hardware performs. Profiles wouldn't matter as much as firmware.

Mind if I ask why you're running stock firmware with a mod motor? Just wondering really...

myself, and a few other team drivers feel that it's a "smoother" transition into boost.

STock 0 Blinky should be the most mild low load firmware to be running for any motor. So I doubt very much it has anything to do with being run with a mod motors. I think of Blinky as what our first gen BL ESC had before boost existed.

Regardless i run a 7.5 with my ESC in blinky because i just like the smoothness. And i find it much simpler to set it and forget it. Ran blinky on the LPF as well. In buggy at out track we all run 6.5/7.5 some guys run higher turns. I have more then enough power and run very lower endbell timing as well. All this to say the motor firmware combo really have no bearing on how this thing failed. IT failed off power before even hitting the track.

I think its just one of those fluke manufacturing issues. Although as i mentioned earlier my LHS has about a dozen Reventon series boxes to return, so it would seem maybe a patch at least has issues.

I have a Speed Passion Reventon "Stock Club Race" and a Fanton Ion 13.5 motor. As soon as I plug the sensor wire in the Speedo shuts off. Is this the I need to cut a wire in the sensor harness thing?

Recheck all your wiring. Fantoms are just OEMd Trinity/Epic motors so you shouldn't have to cut any sensors wires.

So the agreement is that the 'stock0' works well even in mod applications. Does anyone have some wild 'mod' setups that they run?

I have run SP Escs form many years and I agree they are very smooth (gt2.0 and LPF ) and currently I have 2 rev. Pros sitting in a basket once I pull the funds together, destined for my 2wd and 4wd buggys.

My question more relates to the the various menu options that are more fine tuned. How are people setting up the Esc for racing. As long as I have been racing and playing with RCs, certain aspects of the tuning game have eluded me. I'm old school Esc and mod motors, where we would gear accordingly and sometimes modify endbell timing for more power. Is these an explanation of the menu settings and what they do? Also, how do your setups on motors differ when it comes to 2wd vs 4wd?

It seems simple enough, I just want to be able to make a few Tweaks and be able to run my buggies with mod guys w/o having to tweak a bunch of stuff. I race on a small to med sized indoor clay track with good blue groove traction.

I know it seems simple enough, but I'm sure others, esp newbs might share my sentiment.

stock0 works fine for mod, you will just be relying solely on the motors powerband.

mod 1 or mod2 are what I like for 2wd buggy. certainly don't need boost or turbo in a 2wd buggy with a 7.5 (even a 10.5 geared right doesn't).

for 4wd buggy I'm liking stock1 with hybrid boost and the "max" down near the lowest setting. running a 6.5 geard 20/81 the thing is a land missile when I want it to be and totally driveable everywhere else (if I let it be).

Crossing fingers SP takes care of me quickly... Luckily i got a GT2LPF loaner in the mean time..

sorry to hear that happened to you. My GT2.0s have been robust enough that I connected one wrong, smoke smell and battery leads desoldered themselves and its still working to this day.

did the required head smash too lol

Very interesting stuff!

I wonder, programatically, what the differences are between stock and mod firmware, especially with regards to sensor and mosfet or current limits and i/o....but only because I'm kindof a code geek. It's probably failed hardware or a corrupted flash. SP escs seems to have a bit of a reputation for failed firmware flashes. Guessing the updater isn't using checksums or hash verification. Anyway...

Ultimately, if you can tune to your driving style and its working fine for 95% of other drivers, then why not!

micrors4guy 03-08-2013 03:22 PM

the new firmware has a safe mode where you should be able to return a bricked esc software update back to life by throwing it into safe mode. My 3 reventon pros have been running strong except for the one hick up that was taken care of with a reflash.

Revention pro setting for 2wd sct 17.5

Im putting a SP Revention pro in my Kyosho 2wd sct with a 17.5 Revtech with HT rotor. Our 17.5 class is open for boost and timing. What setting and program do you guys recommend?

try stock1 and add boost and timing to your liking. more is faster. just check temps as you increase.

Thanks. I've been running a Tekin Rs with timing and boost and timing on the motor. Wanted to try something new. The Revention pro sounds like it is very smooth.

Guys I am looking at a budget setup for my 2wd buggy. Looking at getting the citrix stock club race and a 10.5 v3 motor or 9.5 v2 motor. M question is, I have a hobbywing pro programming box, can i use that to change basic settings like brake force and locking out reverse on this esc or can it be done within the esc itself or do i have to buy a specific programmer?
