Viper RC -

Got a problem: want to know if I should just send it in. VTX8 paired to a viper 4.5 (Fresh back from viper warranty) 1. Soldered in. 2. Re-bound. 3. Tried to calibrate. Nothing. Fan is on. Lights are all on. Steering works. Tried 3 diff batteries. Pull trigger F light blinks red. Motor twitches when turned on. Is the VTX8 bad or is the viper motor bad that was returned. Oh also replaced the sensor wire.

If the motor is not connected in any way- do the light work correctly? Solid red for full throttle, solid orange for full brake. Also, depending on what happen with that motor, it's possible the damaged motor effected the speed control.

Hi Nikos,
I have the above combo fitted in my Kyosho Lazer ZX5.
firstly, the support ive had from your team to date has been 2nd to none in my experience, and i am truly impressed with the quality of product i get from you guys.
however, very recently i ran into a problem. heres the basic run down.
I use a Savox 1258 servo with a 4700uF cap and an 18t pinion on a stock spur. Using a FSGT3C tx and rx. my SCTE uses the same radio & cap with no probs.
Everything has been fine until very recently.
I turn on the ESC and it goes through the boot steps with the P light solid from boot to reboot.
After boot the R light flashes 3 times, then the N light goes solid & S light starts flashing (indicating blinky mode)
I have steering.
I push the throttle, the ESC twitches the motor once while im holding the throttle.
I let the throttle go back to neutral.
I push the throttle again, the ESC reboots.
I can repeat this process over and over, same thing happens (except motor will only twitch when the caps have had time to discharge.
Everything else about the ESC appears normal, I can attach the proguage and change stuff.
Ive changed batteries, recalibrated, rebound, dropped all settings from transmitter and rebuilt.
The only other thing i can think of to try is a software update, i just ordered the USB cable to try that, it'll be 2 weeks.
I spose the first question i should ask is: is it likely that I've fried the motor?
Any assistance or suggestions on stuff to try is appreciated.
thanks

Canaris - First try the basics - different motor, different sensor cable, check all settings and calibrations.
Also you said 3 blinking lights after start up - verify what profile you are using and settings. Profile 3 (3 blinking lights) is normally a boosted profile and would probably not react well with a lower turn modified which my guess is you have in a 4wd buggy.
PM me is you have any more questions.
Tony - the newer caps are going to give you little more punch off the corner and more consistent brakes. It will work, but we updated the caps because we found a performance gain. Also check the software, might need updating as well.

Nikos got a question. I'm running a vtx8 in a sc10 4x4. I was wondering if using a pro 6 or pro 9 capacitor would be warranted. I was running a 540 4 pole 4800kv but when it blew a bearing in the last race I put in a 550 4.5 2 pole and turned up the punch to 90%. Ran much much better with the VTX8 compared to my last esc, but still lacked a little oomph to get over the doubles on the very short run-ups. Its my off season here just looking to get things ready for next year.

Novak Ballistic. Its much smoother than the 4 pole which helps getting off some of the tight turns and technical sections but you have to be perfect to get over the 2 doubles. That's where the 4 pole shined but was snappy in other parts

Yeah, thought so. I am assuming stock rotor right, not the high torque one? Its a trade off you are going to have. Personally I would go back to a 4 pole motor, and play with Punch Control settings (or whatever its called on the Viper, I haven't really messed with it much) and go from there.
The smoothness of the motor, what exactly about it makes it easier to get out of tight turns? Is it that you don't get loose in the rear end with it being smoother?

I have a used Copperhead-R 4500 combo in a sct410 that I ran for the first time Saturday. I was happy with the power and response of the system but I'm having the issue where after a tumble the motor stops responding although the servo is still receiving power and I can turn the wheels. This happened a couple times and at first I thought maybe this system was one that had issues with the savox servo. By the time I came down off the stand the truck would start running again so I would go back up and finish the race. Afterwards both temps (around 120) and battery voltage seemed fine. I've read to check the motor connections at the esc but mine seem tight. The rubber boot that covers the wires coming out of the motor has detached from the can but the wires are still attached. Could this be caused by anything else besides loose esc connection?
Thx.
btw, I use a VTX10 Black in my 2wd which I've never had a problem with.
