Viper has the worst customer service I have ever seen. I ordered a new vtx8 and 4.5t xl motor got them both and neither one of them work from the factory. Been over a month and Im still waiting on my motor. I called them and they said I needed a backup system? So if you buy from them there telling you to buy 2 because one of them probably doesnt work. They SUCK.

If the system is brand new, and you were able to calibrate it to your radio, I would check that you have the system set on Profile 4 (2s battery, 2 pole motor) as the instruction indicate. If you did not change this it would not work because Profile 1 is for 1/8 (4s battery, 4 pole motor) and the voltage setting is much higher so it make you think it doesn't work, because it won't respond when you pull the trigger. Please PM here or contact our support services, we'd be glad to work on it to help you.

When I got my 1st VTX8 for my sct I didn't do that and it was set on 12.8v cutoff and I thought it didn't work. LOL

Sorry, I was away at the SC Showdown over the weekend (check out the great reports on LiveRC.com) - couple A Main finishes and podiums by Viper products in 17.5 SC, SCB, a few near misses in 4wd SC - good racing weekend, so I have to catch up on some of the thread.
re-calibration issue from other page -- the calibration goes by the end points of radio (which are transmitted in signal from radio), they can vary from model to model in the radio (you can actually test this with the ProGauge). I would recommend either re-binding your radio or use a different model. On my Futaba 4pks, my model 5 will not calibrate any Viper esc if the throttle trim is set at 0, I have to move it -1 or -2, or +1 or +2 for it calibrate.
"sticky", difficult shutdown - we have heard that, the only thing that I have personally seen with this is, if the system is not at neutral, it will not shut off (it thinks its running, even though it many not be). If you see then, check to see if you see the green neutral like on the esc.

That is true Nikos, I have seen it not say neutral with the radio on and I will sometimes recalibrate. But for me, if I turn the radio off, the neutral light turns off and it typically wont shut down. Now some people might say, why turn the radio off before the car? While that is true, lol. Sometimes in a hurry ya know. Plus sometimes I use the progauge to setup the esc while the radio is off. Then, I either need to power on the radio or just simply unplug it. Since the off button is the main thing i dislike, I can live with it by simply unplugging the esc.

Stu - sorry missed your set up question. 5000-8000 throttle pwm (see what you like best), 100 punch, 100 forward power. 75-27 or 28 (2.60 gearbox) is always my starting point with our motors. BTW, qualified 20th at SC Showdown running a 17.5 blinky!!!! If I only could have gotten that run in 17.5 class I would have been in the top 10!!

for cuttoff, multiply 3.2 by however many cells you are running.
make sure that when you change a setting, you go the root menu and save your changes.
literally all the PC link does is allow you to update to a new software. thats about it.
as far as i know, the cable that goes from the ProGuage to the 'vport' is the same across the line.

I don't know what FW I'm running so I've ordered the cable. Will check if there's an update.

and Whoever said Viper's customer service was less the stellar is WRONG .... I might be bias cuz i am local to them but its been top notch everytime I have had an issue or an upgrade !!!!
