Dave - find Travis Amezcua and/or Paul Sinclair - they are both running our stuff in 4wd there and will give you help with set up.

silvalis - what was the protection shut off set at for the motor and the esc? Normally for 4wd, I set to disable and use a temp gun. for esc 240-250. Remember these readings are done via the sensor internally on the rotor (if you use the motor cut off) and and circuit board. If I did my math right, it shouldn't be too bad temp wise, little high, but its 4wd, lot going on, tight space. I've run higher and lower, depending on conditions.

MAXX - yes the internal part of the VPort (switch) is waterproofed as well - you do have to be aware of the open port where you plug in the ProGauge. While I never openly suggest running in the wet - just put a piece of tape over it to be extra sure.

hey guys, I just got a Viper VST 10.5 turn motor for my 22T stadium truck.
nikos, whats a good FDR to start with. the book says to start with 22/82, which times 2.43 puts it at 9.06:1
this will be in blinky, with a traxxas vxl esc.
I have 78, 82, 84 and 86 tooth spurs, and pinions from 16 up to 24.
I run a Vtx10R and VST 17.5 in my 22sct, and I am very happy with it.
thanks in advance!

Andrew - start with the recommended gearing and you can always adjust from there. I don't know much about that esc, so I can't say much more than that. But you always need a starting point, and make adjustments from there.

ryan - Travis runs our 4.5 motor with the 10R Black Edition in his Durango 4wd at all the major events. You do have to what temperatures, but you have to do that with anything 4wd SC, its one of the most demanding situations our motors and speed controls operate.

thanks for your help

I've left both motor and ESC on default cutoffs for profile 2. Something like 160 and 220?

I wasn't too worried about the motor temps, it's an LRP after all. The ESC cutoff was a bit more of a worry as it didn't reach as anywhere near as high in my Kyosho FS2SP (different motor + esc, but the same setup - lrp 7.5/vtx10r). I'll probably leave the cutoff in place for the moment; it was only a club race.

Why not? If you sell the progague as a kit and customers use it increase performance of their motors, it shouldn't matter if it is set up and geared properly, because it was tuned to go faster and faster = hotter.

I guess by not selling one it may increase profits
I just like having the option to protect my investment.

tuning to go faster includes setting it up and gearing it properly. even with a fan you cant just install the biggest pinion on the smallest spur physically possible.

fans are normally for 4x4 SC's and 8th scales. Both of which are not coming with the ability to mount the fans to the motor mount. I would prefer that to a messy motor plus heat sink. I would prefer to not use Motor fans period. you gear really high because you have a fan. the fan goes out mid race. motor burns up? If anything I would prefer passive heat sinks.

What is the biggest advantage of the a55 vs. the a30. I just received my VTX10 and it has the a30 firmware. Everything seems and runs fine and it calibrated the first try.

the a55 is WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY better. In short, faster and better brakes. The a30 would not even calibrate my my airtronics ratio. upgraded to a55 and works like a champ. One of the Viper reps mentioned sending it to them for update if you dont have the pclink. they would also like to know who is still selling old esc's if you bought new.

Thanks Wildcat... Better programming, opened up the power profile a good bit, simplified the boost settings.

SCS- wow, if it was brand new and had a30 it was sitting on a shelf somewhere. Like mentioned you need the PCLink to update firmware or you can send it to us we would do it for free. Or hopefully you could see if someone I your area can help you.

boostem- we sell a fan kit for esc's some of our touring drivers have taken the fan off it and put it by the motor. Plus, there are so many people (companies) that sell them, we can let them have a little sale -- we are nice guys like that

I went from A19 to A55, and boy was it rewarding. I was really surprised on how much power it added. my lhs still has two vtx esc's, both a19 judging that the caps are still the silver ones. been there since i bought my 10r last July.
