I'm picking up a 4x4 shortcourse, Losi SCTe. I'm curious on what you guys feel is the best option for motor/speed control. I already have a VTX10r so I would either just need 550 can motor or go copperhead system, price is a wash.

awesome nick! will they be able to handle a tekin pro4 with no problem? what are the amp draws?
b/t nick i sent back that vtxr....you think when i get it back, it will be good to run in my sc10 2wd with a 10.5 or will that be overkill?

I have been running the Copperhead 45 combo all season long. As far as I'm concerned, it's perfect for the SCTE. I race a SCTE, have been since Losi released it, and so far the Copperhead handles everything I've thrown at it.
I run right with, and by, everything else on the market with it. It is just as responsive and quick as the Pro4 4600, faster than the Castle 3800, and just as strong as the Tenshock stuff.
These Viper VX4 motors are beasts on the low end. Gear it correct, and it's a beast on the top too.
I would recommend buying the ProGuage when making the purchase. It helps a lot with the fine tuning. Although, I ran mine in Profile #5 for a few months and was on the podium all over the place.

For what it's worth, this is my opinion on motor and overkill. I would much rather have a setup in my truck that will over jump the biggest triple and have to dial it down, than to not have enough and case a jump.
Just my two cents.

The VTX8 will be able to handle both 2 and 4 pole motors, 2s-6s batteries. Yes we have tested with the motor you listed.
Tran- you can use the VTX10R with any 540 motor motor no problem. Don't think of it as overkill - think of it as extra precaution.
Kid, the choice is yours, depends on budget. Both combos are fast, powerful, adjustable and have performance.
