Guys, before people start getting rude on this vtx8 cutting out I think this needs splitting in 2:

1. What's wrong: The highest probability has to be that its cutting because the BEC can't handle the load.

2. WHY: this is the tricky bit....touch wood my vtx8 doesn't need a glitch buster (though my servo is not a big current puller) and as someone has said some others don't need it, so it could be a weak BEC in that unit. It could be the cells are not up to scratch (what spec/how old are they)? It could be that particular savox is pulling more than normal (any bind in steering)? Or the motor pulling too much.

If it was me, I'd try to rule out anything else and then if still a problem either live with running a glitch buster (is it really a big deal?) or send it back?

No Binding and I turned my endpoints down to like 80% just to make sure. Because sometimes having it hammering past the full throw has caused it for me in the past on a diffrent system.

I will try another savox servo. I dont think i have any hi-techs to try. ( Have the exact same one in my 2wd with Vtx10r with no issue )

I can't run a glitch buster..well I could but it wont fit in my rx box and its just extra crap I refuse to run on a $200 esc.

I was running SPC 50C 5400mah batteries with under 10 cycles on them if that makes any diffrence.

I am trying out 7.1:1 with the motor at 35*, trying to get a little more top end, and keep the low strong.
my track is a little tight, and the 12.8 may help a bit on the low.
the overall power should stay the same, just shift the curve where the power band will be.

What is the temp after 5 min and 10 min? You want to make sure you have two different ratios setup, one for qual and one for mains.

Before you switch, get a baseline temp after 5 min and after 10 min. Do it 3 times each if possible so you can rule out any flukey readings. Once you know that you are at 110 after 5 min and 140 after 10 min (I'm just making up numbers), then you can use that gearing as a road map to your 12.8 gearing.

just to clarify, are you removing the installed power cap off the speed control?

I doubt its the cells and it looks like you have the rest covered...maybe try that other servo but sounds like a bad BEC (or if someone else knows, is it possible to get a bad cap without the whole esc going pop?).

Don't blame you for not wanting to run a glitch buster, I keep one handy in case but my reason for going from a $60 speed passion to a $200 viper was BEC strength as adjustable voltage, I'd be pissed if it didn't have that too!

I,v seen many many posts that folks are having problems like this with many systems and the common denominator is the Savox Servo....

Why do so many folks like this servo ???

Been flying 1/3rd scale planes with 8 servos in it doing 3D maneuvers and no amp problems...I would take a long and hard look at Savox!

Huh? I don't know what your talking about i don't think you can even remove those from the VTX8.

Im starting to think my servo has some internal binding. I just grabbed my 2wd thats running the same servo and turned the wheels by hand moves pretty easy. Moving the wheels on my 4x4 its a lot harder to turn them by hand. I unhooked the servo and there is no binding.

Hopefully my servo is just having an issue I will swap them and try the other one tomorrow.

Although last week I ran the same sevo with a hobbywing WP8 esc and didn't have a problem.

Hi guys, just finished running my vtx10r for the day and found the capacitor (its the black one that sits on the esc) has come off on 3 of the 4 connect points...

...I'm confused why it ran like that and didn't fail? Temps were only 130 after an 8min main...so as long as I swap out the capacitor for a new one should the esc itself still be ok? It seemed to be working fine at the end still!?

Also, to a viper person, do you have these capacitors in stock as I am gonna need to get a store to order them in!

Dave

I tore the power switch from my esc in a race. Can I send it in for repair? I'm aware that it will not be warrantied. If so, do I need to complete an RMA?

Thank you!

I had issues with both of my new vtx10rbe esc's. Both seemed to glitch when applying throttle. It was an intermittent problem, because you could unplug and plug back in and it worked fine. But not every time. We rebound and rebound, switched models, changed to middle deadband reduced power, changed sensor wires, motors etc etc as i was scrambling through the viper website for help. This is on 2 seperate 4 wheel 10th scale cars yesterday at the proline race with 2 new viper esc's. Same problem. At this point Im gonna have to say my race day was pretty much ruined on a 4 1/2 hour away race. Not happy viper!!!

both esc's doing the exact same thing? that would seem odd. I would look at the radio. was it actually a glitch or maybe cogging?

Gotta' agree with Wildcat on this one. But, with electronics from China, who knows?! (shrug)
