Hey! I just raced my Viper VTX10 and VST 8.5 for the first time in my B4.1 and it ran good with plenty of power/punch(too much) with no timing boost/30% punch/6000hz/ gears were 22/81 and I used a 35c 5000 pack. Anyway it got about 160f on both esc. and motor after 10min. and I am running smaller pinion than most other guys using LRP or Tekin they were at 130f-140f also no bind anywhere very smooth drivetrain in my buggy is this about normal 160f? I am not complaining because I got 2nd in our local points series race but want to keep temps down and not have to rebuild motor or buy anything for awhile. Any reason why ESC. is 160f because I have PCM hz pretty low and low punch? Any info/advice on keeping my Viper system running smooth and cool would be great also I a nitro guy getting into 1/10 2wd electric buggy so still learning some things!

however the HTZ Setting is similar to a TV. the higher the hertz, the higher the resolution, and in TV's that is often better picture quality. but in this case a higher resolution gives you a smoother feel (16000htz), while a lower resolution say (8000) will give you more aggressive feel.
i personally like 8000, but i have a second profile set identical to the first Except the resolution is set one step lower.
this way i can switch between a mild and aggressive power band, either for track conditions or how myself or the competition are driving.
A lot of motorcross/supercross teams have programmable ECU's which allow for similar adjustments.

mick, on our motors 160 is little high, but not horrible. Does "no timing boost" mean you were in blinky mode? or did you have some timing or boost dialed in? What was your motor timing set at?
BTW - congrats, 2nd isnt bad, first time out with the system.

im having trouble differentiating the two......My head is still in the old brushed / round cell days so there wasn't nearly as many settings in your speedo. I think I'll have to do some testing to see what is best for me. I guess for now with 17.5 blinky it's not as important
I really have only tried profile 1 and 2... haven't messed with any of the settings except added some drag brake.
Oh speaking of which, I forgot to ask. How do I "disable" dynamic brake? Just turn the percentage to 0? Do I need to mess with the RPM setting as well?

Here is a good starting setup with an 8.5 motor.
Throttle Punch 100%
Throttle Frequency 16,000 hz
Brake Freq 12,000 hz
No boost and no timing (leave in Race Blinky mode)
Drag brake 10%
Dynamic Brake Strength 0%
Motor temp cutoff: Disable
ESC Temp cutoff: 220*
Voltage Cut-off: Lowest Voltage Setting
Keep checking temps of the motor and esc after 5 minute intervals. It shouldnt exceed 160* for both. Ideal temps should be within 120-150 range
I hope this helps

wakboarder- yes leave it there to start. I normally don't turn up for an 8.5, but maybe down a little if its too much overall power.
Bob - maybe this will help. In super basic terms, throttle freq makes the power application smoother, higher the number, smoother the band. Typically faster the motor, higher the freq so it doesn't feel 'punchy'. Punch look at it like traction control. At 100% you will spin your tires, at 10% it will seem slow off the line. I don't have the trigger finger I did 15 years ago so whe I run mod 2wd, I lower the Punch a lot, to keep me from pulling the trigger to hard and spinning the tires. Hope that helps.

Hey thanks for the reply! I am a little confused on motor timing because it goes from 15-45 and I have set at 15 so I guess thats as low as it goes and I did use profile 3 but changed settings to 0 timing on top and accel. I am just curious why the ESC is getting over 150f with no timing and no binding also only running 22/81 gears. There was one time when I didn't realize until about 2 mins. into a run then I remebered that I had changed top end timing to 10 deg on ESC for a 13.5 motor and forgot to change it back for 8.5 and ESC. got 170f and motor hit 175f really quickly changed it back immediately to 0 deg. It just seems extreme with no timing and low gear ratio to hit 160f every main with both esc. and motor. I know it's not the drivetrain cause I threw a Speed Passion SCT master($50) and v3 comp SP motor ($40)in it with like 10deg. on motor and 30 deg. on esc. also had 30/75 gears at 150f in a 10min. run. just to see what was causing temps. I have spent good money getting this setup and really like it other than it's getting hot and can't really drop a gear cause I will get smoked on straights! Thanks Again!

I'm looking forward to a great year running Viper
