savannahmick- actually you might want to go up a tooth. If your esc is too hot could be under geared. Motor too hot = over geared. Also might want to spread out low and high rpm settings to allow esc to spread the power out over more of the power band. If to narrow it can cause some heat.

Bob- no problem hope to catch you Island or Critters this winter.

Carl- what do you need out of the system? Pretty close to what I ran last in 4wd. Don't know the drive ratio of the Durango but I run 81-21 or 22 in my B44.1

naffer- motor still being developed. But as an FYI Royce Berrio finished 4th at J Concepts NE champs with VTX8/Viper motor - Gabriel Galeano finished 2nd in e Truggy at The Track Inaguarial Trophy Race VX8/Viper motor.

I am just curious why the ESC is getting over 150f with no timing and no binding also only running 22/81 gears. There was one time when I didn't realize until about 2 mins. into a run then I remebered that I had changed top end timing to 10 deg on ESC for a 13.5 motor and forgot to change it back for 8.5 and ESC. got 170f and motor hit 175f really quickly changed it back immediately to 0 deg. It just seems extreme with no timing and low gear ratio to hit 160f every main with both esc. and motor. I know it's not the drivetrain cause I threw a Speed Passion SCT master($50) and v3 comp SP motor ($40)in it with like 10deg. on motor and 30 deg. on esc. also had 30/75 gears at 150f in a 10min. run. just to see what was causing temps. I have spent good money getting this setup and really like it other than it's getting hot and can't really drop a gear cause I will get smoked on straights! Thanks Again!
There are several factors that can contribute to ESC temp other than just timing. As Nick said, if you are under geared you can actually get the ESC hot.

First. Make sure you have the ESC temp setting set!!!!! I would set it at 170 or 180 degrees.

But, things like Drive Freq, Brake Freq, Drag Brake, punch, etc..... all can get an ESC hot

I myself tend to only run 80% brake or so, I find that once you have enough brake energy to lock the wheels on the strait-away, that you can turn it down. It helps keep from looping the car out when you get on the brakes.

Hey Viper Gang - So I got the PC link today and updated my two VXT10Rs to the a55 firmware. WHen I program via the PC link there is no option for slope...or if there is it is via a scale of 1-10. Do you have any details on that each level 1-10 is?

I had been using a profile sent to me by Eric Kim with a slew rate of 10/0.10sec and a delay of 0.1o sec. I don't see either of these settings when using the PC link. What am I missing or did they go away with the new firmware?

My VXT10-BE is being run blinky so I never even looked at these settings.

Also while you're on the line...I'm thinking of moving from the VST13.5T I have now running Eric's boost profile to a VST10.5T...anyone got a baseline boost profile for that motor in a SCT?

Thanks

At the request of customers, the Slew was changed to the 1-10 system, with 1 being conservative and 10 being aggressive vs. the deg / 1000rpm method.

It was done to make it harder to make a mistake by having the wrong setting and over-timing the ESC

Sure that's fine. So where does 10*/0.10 sec fall in the 1-10 range?

Start at 2 or 3 and adjust by how you like the feel of the throttle.

That was the discrepancy. 10 Deg in .1 sec sounds aggressive, but if you have the Top Speed Timing set to 3 or 5 degrees, the esc will just throw the timing in all at once, but it is only a few degrees so it does not feel aggressive.

Now if you are adding 20 degrees of TST, 10 Deg / .1 sec is VERY aggressive. It will add 20 deg of timing after .2 seconds of wide open throttle. So, it is basically like "throwing on a light switch".

It was a setting that if you were just a little one way or the other on the time or timing settings, you could really hurt a motor or the ESC.

My suggestion is to start low and test. 3 or 4 practice runs and you should get the feeling you are looking for.

Hi folks,

I ran a Tekin RX8 system when I raced last year. I'm starting over again hopefully in the next 6 months with 1/10th scale and a smaller budget. The Viper systems are very attractive due to price and the pro gauge. I plan on starting with a Losi 22 with a 17.5 motor. Anyone familiar with that setup? Anyone convert from Tekin and regret it?

For total clarity I was running this profile as sent by Eric Kim...it worked very well for me with a VST13.5 in my XXX-SCT.

Grasshoper - yeah - keep what you had before, just start with the slew rate about 2 or 3, and test it from their. Just like all the other settings on your car (truck) you have to test a little to perfect the feel you want and get the lap time you want.

Orion - for 17.5 blinky - use profile 1 - lower the Throttle Freq, if you want little more bottom end. check to see what gearing everyone at the track is using for the 22 and go and learn. Like was said before, first couple runs, keep little short, check your temps, feel it out. And then play a little with the settings to fine tune the feel your looking for.
