I also think that using a different brand motor than the esc can give an incorrect temp reading, not sure how all that works but have seen it said before. Perhaps Nikos/Viper could comment on this?

trying to get to the root of your issue .....one thing to keep in mind is that the inside of the motor is where the temp is read for the thermal cut-off so it is safe to say the reading your getting off your motor can is just the external temp .....i had an issue with my 8.5vst (of course not a tekin motor) like your running ....i run my esc at 240 on the esc thermal and i disable the motor thermal cut-off ...i have never had another issue since i disabled the motor thermal cut-off ...i have been running the same motor and esc all season for about 7 months ...outside temp of my motor is never over about 160 ...all this being said maybe give it a try with it disabled and just check it every few laps to be on the safe side ...if it runs a battery pack through and you have no issues i would call it a day ...hope that might help out with your issue

You could start with that profile, but I would tone down the timing and boost settings a little. To start. Plus go down a few teeth as well to compensate. Boost is a helpful tool, but it may take a little time to dial in. Everyone has a little different feel and style so what works for one person may be too strong or too weak for another.

Tibbs - like the guys said if you are happy with performance and motor temp you are getting bump up the settings in the esc. They are meant to be an extra layer of protection not an absolute. Often in 17.5 classes we disable the setting and go by temp, just to get that little extra, but still be safe by checking temp. BTW- I always leave the esc temp setting on!!!
Yes to the comment that our values are calibrated using our products. Motorist is possible that the sensor designs in other motors would not read the same value. It is always best to check, especially with a new setting or gear ratio. To verify your temps. And remember if your looking for performance, don't practice longer than the length of your races.

Trying to squeeze a little more power out of my 17.5
Geared at 32/69 in a DEX210. Maxed can timing. Blinky
Tired going up a little and down a little on can and gears.
A few other motors I've been toying with have a way harder power band and have an advantage with my same set up.
Just wondering what you guys are doing to get that extra squeeze

Just took second place overall (should have had first place was in first place long enough lol) with viper copperhead 5150 and 4500 at Stateline's Friday night summer points series for SC4x4. 5150 in a OFNA NEXX 10SC and 4500 in a Losi SCTE.

Well fellas, my weekend started out kinda bad, and then got a little better. I went to the Outdoor Midwest Championships this weekend at Kings RC in New Vienna, Ohio just outside of Cinci. Got there on Friday and ran 2 packs through my Losi SCTE with the Copperhead 4500 combo.
Ran the 2 pracitice batts and when I went to run batt 3, the system would turn on, power light on the vport, but would not arm. Nothing. No other lights. Tried trouble shooting EVERYTHING we could possibly shoot for, (thanks again Nick) and couldn't find anything. The esc just decided it was time to die!!! After all, we have to remember that electronics are nothing but sand and metal, and they can just decide to stop for no reason at all.
So with the luck I was having, I thought the weekend was over before it started. Low and behold, the second half of our group wasn't coming up til later in the day, and as they were loading up the trailers, I got hold of them, and they were able to stop by a friends house and raid the truck to bring me a new speedo!!!
So with only 3 packs of warmup, I was able to pull off 5th place in the Pro4 SCT class. There were 100 racers there, despite being threatened by the Isaac storm. Luckily, we never even had a drop of rain. All around us it poured, but not there!!! Big thanks goes out to Steve King for putting on one of the best races this year in the Midwest. His track was perfect. If you like HUGE, fast, and HUGE FAST tracks, you will surely want to check his place out. Here's a link : www.kingsrc.com
Hope you guys all had a great weekend.

one thing we have seen some drivers do in 17.5 is increase the throttle curve from Linear to Exp+1 or Exp2. Keep the Throttle Freq lower (like 4k). Some say run the highest timing you can on your motor, I run just below - maybe 40º. Then its gearing and battery. What can your track and driving style handle. Also remember we push these bad boys to the limit of heat, which breaks down the magnetic field -- if you have been racing hard with your motor for 5-6 months. May be time for a new rotor at the very least.
