I had the chance to run my newly acquired vtx10 and vtx10r escs running a tekin 17.5 and hw 13.5 motors respectively. The 17.5 is in a dex210 and the 13.5 is in a xxx-sct. From looking at the kv ratings of both motors the 17.5 is not too much less than the 13.5.
My first impression of these esc's and their programming is very good. After using novaks, tekins, and hobbywings this is by far the easiest and most intuitive to program. Also it's the only ecs I could easily see changes to the performance after adjustments.
The performance is hard to explain unless you experience it. There is so much more speed in my motors now that I'm definitely going to gear lower. And the motors and escs ran cool all night even in hot AZ heat.
The only issue I had was the internal motor temp protection. It's definitely a bit buggy. I was running a very conservative gearing and the motor outside temp never got over 120 yet regardless of what I set the protection to it always tripped the high temp limit and shut down the esc. So after disabling that feature I never had the issue again. I don't care much about it b/c I know what my motor temps are.
Otherwise, this is definitely my favorite esc to date! Nice job Viper, I might have to try one of your motors next.

Nick,
thanks for the info on Saturday. After I adjusted the throttle trim, and recalibrated, I was off and running. I'm very thankful for the help bro. Not a good thing to have tech issues when you drive 3 hours to race an indoor track because of the rain!!!
Ended up taking 2nd in Pro4 SCT. Not bad for the first time at the track, and only getting 2 warm up packs through it!
Thanks again man!!!

mulepic - thanks for the kind words - glad you like everything. Yes we error a little on the side of caution with the default set up of the motor temp. But we do it on purpose, rather have someone hit the temp cut off instead of the running way too hot. Try the motors!!
Dan - no problem, congrats on the results!!! Glad to help!!

No there is no standard to coming up with the kv rating. It can vary for a few different reasons, which I won't bore you with.
A 13.5 motor should be relatively similar to other 13.5 motors. Our motors are more torque based so depending on your track design out motor should be geared a few teeth higher than others. It's kind of like the old brushed motor days when mfg's would put dyno numbers numbers in the box. There were soapy little differences between machines, settings, conditions. That it's more marketing show than actual information.

Guy- I will text you in the morning, your parents probably wouldn't like your phone going off at 12:42 am!!
Last time I was out there, Royce was running against the factory drivers (for those not from Island Raceway), in mod class, using his 13.5 boosted. They were running 7.5 and 8.5, and he could do the same lap times. Plus he doesn't run there as much as some others.

Guy, you should have gotten the txt msg.
Debate --- do I put a 8.5 in my SC10 for modified racing this weekend? Or run 17.5 and then boost it to run mod? Can't decide.................

8.5 sc10 wants power, i can't stand 17.5 stock sc its so boring. after 2 races i got burnt out..
#5037
I see it like this, if you run 8.5 and win, someone will complain about it being too much motor. If you run 17.5 with some boost, someone will complain about it being boosted when you win!!! I say run 8.5 and smoke 'em!!! Where you running at this weekend?

People are going to jump all over me for saying this, but if you want something sick for your stadium truck, I say grab the Copperhead 3900kv combo!!! Bet you'd like it!

Ok, not trying to sound mean, but my Viper is slow as doggy do do....lol. I bought a Copperhead 3900 kV. I am comparing it to the Castle 3800 system I also run. I run it in a Losi SCB. I don't race, but just run on outdoor tracks only, so no street bashing or speed runs. Only run on 2s. The thing lacks a little punch and then gets about 15' down the straight and flat out falls on it face. Like an old four stroke, just no revs. Geared 21/86. Temps are cool (never over 120 on motor). I gear my Castle the same and it flat out rips. I mainly bought the Viper for the hand held programming ease. For what I do, I don't want to carry a laptop. I like to go to 3 different outdoor tracks and would like the ability to change settings for each. I do have the Progauge.
Batteries are 6000 mAh, 65c in case someone wants to know.
