Good to hear you had a great weekend. Congrats from all of us here at Viper. Nick is a great guy and im fortunate to work with him. Glad he got you setup

Just wanted to show my appreciation to Nick from Viper.
I raced at Motorama 2012 this weekend and was seeded 13th. Spoke to Nick via email always got great assistance. Saw him at Motorama and he updated my firmware helped me with settings and went out of his way to program my radio also. After qualifying the new firmware was amazing qualified 8th in the amain was in 2nd most of the race got taken out by lap traffic and finished 7th. stock shortcourse was very competitive on the large 1/8th rough track. new smart braking was excellent for the sweeping turns.
Need more viper products in the rest of my cars. system as run flawless for me for over a year.
Thanks again Nick and Viper for providing us with a fantastic product.
Sincerely
Steve JeanCharles

Thanks for the kind words guys - we did have a good event. Some 600 entries over 2 race tracks, something crazy like 15 different classes of racing, I got blisters on my feet running back and forth between the tracks.
to getloose and opio - how big are the tracks you are running on? Gearing is important with 17.5 and yes you can overgear it, bigger pinions are not always best depending on how big the track is. Me and Mark both found we were overgeared at points last week.

Fill it out, click submit (or enter) and it will take you to a page where you can print the form out (and it will send the RMA to Viper at the same time). Once you have printed it out, put it in the box with your equipment when you send it in, allong with your proof of purchase (receipt or invoice)

Since the Copperhead system has been out for a little bit I was looking to get some feedback on the system in a SCTE. Is the R45 still the way to go? On average, what kind of runtimes can I expect? Needing to get at least twelve minutes of runtime. Thanks.

hey viper people. help!
got a brand new viper 8.5t motor. running it with an older but still pretty good LRP sphere 2007 esc in an sc10, with the manual recommended 18/84 gears.
it is slow as hell.. i wanted something faster and smoother than my worn out traxxas velineon motor. smoother? VERY! amazing smooth throttle response.
there's just no power. it feels like my friends stock 17.5 truck. i had a friend whos pretty savvy with viper stuff run it and he agrees, its slow. REALLY slow for an 8.5
I tried running different combinations of gears.
19/84, 20/81, 19/81, 18/81 and after about 10 minutes of laps around out small/med indoor smooth high bite track it was at 172* esc was 90*
any suggestions? im not badmouthing in any way, I just expected a lot more and i wonder if its something I am doing wrong.

getloose- I ran 86/21 or 22 with mine SC using the 8.5. check the timing on the can it should be 30*, if it's too low it will slow the motor down. Our motors normally gear 1-2 teeth higher than some recommendations. Check and see what other people are gearing at your track. Those recommendations in car manuals are usually very conservative.

There are a lot of variables to tie into that question. Track conditions, driving style, drivetrain, weather, and batteries. I know mine went over 10 minutes around the house and street. Easily ran 5 minute qualifiers with 3-4 extra laps at Motorama and barely used half a charge - if that. Sorry I should have checked mah usage but it hasn't been a concern of mine since we switch to lipos years ago. Ultimately it's going to be something you need to watch your gearing on, make sure it's not to high. More for heat related to the motor than battery life. I would think most quality lipos will get you there.

Talk to Tekin, but I believe they recommend the RX8 (their 1/8th scale ESC) not the RS (their 1/10th esc) for the Pro4 motor.
The VTX10R is a 1/10th esc and was developed before the use of 4-Pole motors, and was not designed for a 4-Pole application.

Well I sold my rx8 to buy the vtx10r so I hope you are wrong LOL and I did not waste my money.
