CRF Alpha 3 port

Just an update if anyone is interested..

I debated a long time on my next motor. I ran Nova for the last couple years and wanted to try something new.

my major worry, going to the CRF 3 port, to gain a runtime advantage and really suffering with average performance.

So, after 6 tanks thru my friends break-in bench, I thru it in a went to the park to try and get the tune close (2 more tanks) before last fridays series finals.

Went to the track friday with 8 tanks thru it and started running it on the track. The bottom end was obvious right away! This thing has tons of snap! One section of the track has a long rhythm tiple with a 5 foot run-up. 50% of the drivers double single it cuz when you don't hit it perfect, you clip the top of the third triple and go cart-wheeling. I hug the pipe, blurped the throttle and cleared it by 2 feet!!! I cleared it everytime that night!

Ok, so now I am saying. Sure, its got bottom, but how does the mid and top compare? I drag raced a B5, B7 Pro, O.S., and Extech .21 several times. I was amazed, on a 160ft front straight, it was never close, I beat them to the corner every time!!!

This motor still hasn't even fully broken in yet and after a 30 minute A-main it was 239. Most say the sweet spot on this motor is 250 degrees, so it still has more!

This motor is awesome! I guess that's why Amain is sold out right now :)

I'm glad you liked the motor. I also went from Nova motors to Orion. It's a total night and day difference from the two. The Orion never gave me problems while the Nova was just a headache. I love how the motor was always a breeze to tune. Only needing one pipe is a big plus also.

It suck mine got stolen with my buggy a few weeks ago. It was my favorite engine.

It may be illegal, but it is available in Europe! I race at local level with no problems. Maybe at nacional or European level it is illegal. Next time i log into the nacional web i will look it up.

Besides a 2013, what pipes work with the 3 port? Or what are close to the 2013? Whats good for bottom end? Thanks

2057. The 2013 is available in Europe, but you can't use it in Efra-rule-based races. It is a very nice combo, just love the sound...

What is the difference, if any, between the SIRIO 2013 and the ORION 2013? The Sirio 2013 is confirmed as an authorized escape....:tire:

O.K. try this again. Besides the 2 recommended pipes, 2057 and 2013, what pipes work on this mill? IE. the Jammin pipes, OS pipes, Dynamite pipes. What ever pipe was tried basicly. If you have tried different pipes please post your results.

Nothing different between the two designs. I would get the Orion updated 2013, it has a reinforced stinger and is made of thicker material.

To tell you the truth, no other pipe matches the performance of the 2013. I've tried three other pipes on my Orion when I had it. JP-3, JP-4 and an AE 2035. A JP-3 pipe gives the motor a nice bottom, but still doesn't match what the 2013 has to offer. The JP-4 will smooth the power out a bit. The 2035 feels much better than the JP pipes. The 2035 will give you a good bottom with a good top end also.

What pipes work with the original Alpha 3 port non-ABI version. What carbs fit besides the one it comes with?

t8rtot 05-17-2010 05:33 AM

What kind of run time are you guys getting on the 3 port?

fleggasaurus 05-17-2010 06:22 AM

Hey Alan

I've had a bit of bummer of a time trying to tune the orion carby so have since put an Os carby on with good sucess.
