I love the 3-Port, best running engine I have ever had, even my RB's.

I just wish I could get another....they are back ordered everywhere. Anyone know a shop that has one?

haha ok... let me try to save face here since I sort of got called out  Earlier in the year Jared was running 5 and 7 port engines, and everything I saw him run at warm-up was 7 port. Orion is really high on the 7 port engines, as they should be, it's a great engine. As a result, that is what they ship to the team drivers mostly. You really have to bug them to get the 3 port engines and I've never heard Jared talk about the 3 port much (if at all). so that's my story and I'm sticking to it... It's possible he's been running them at home, I don't know. Cavalieri likes the power band of the 3 port a lot. I love the three port as we have been banging the drum for that engine a long time, even back in the Sirio days... it's capable of 12 minute pit stops.

Sorry, I sent you a private message

got it... for the record and the masses, let me say that getting good fuel mileage is a combination of things... good care of the engine, clean air cleaner, good plug, good tune, free drivetrain, and throttle control.... it's a complete package, a combination of all the things that if one thing gets screwed up, the mileage is going to go bad... when you think about it, fuel mileage IS efficiency.

don't take anything I say personally or anything, I talk to all sorts of guys on here, from the most clapped out rigs, to the best maintained, so it's impossible for me to tell, I'm just speaking in generalities... just be the guy who has his stuff well maintained, and if you are that guy, good job. :)

I guess what I'm saying is if you really want the mileage, your stuff has to be pretty strapped :)

in closing let me say with 100% certainty that the Orion 3 port will go over 11 minutes on a tank of fuel if all is right and good...

LOL, I was not calling you out....I was just saying when I spoke with him the other day he was loving the 3-port and was running it in truck and buggy. If you guys run it in truck, then it goes to show the power of the 3 port. I could imagine the 7 port, it must be a hoss.

Pitpop, you are a wealth of info, so please do not think I was calling you out....keep posting, I need all the help I can get.

Pit Pop,

thanks for the info on the needles. I like to be a little bit informed before I start playing with different things. I will try the short needles and let you know about my experiance.

Best regards,

Hi X. It varies on some of the engines. I think the MTE is a little tighter, which requires more break in. Some of the recent engines we have seen less initial pinch, which means you want to heat cycle the engine a little earlier. If you are able to turn it fairly easily, I suggest a couple rich tanks, then just tune it up.

Kalgard Racing 06-07-2010 05:43 PM

Pitpop, I really like the 3-Port, but they are hard to get right now. Is the 7-Port going to be just too much for buggy? I really like these engines.

pitpop 06-07-2010 05:48 PM

I wouldn't go as far as saying it's too much for buggy, but it's definitely got more grunt, so you could use a 6.5 or 7mm restrictor. The 7 port gets amazing mileage for an engine that makes so much power.

There are 3 different 3 port Team Orion Alpha engines available.

Team Orion Alpha 3 port non-ABI (steel bearings):

Team Orion Alpha ABI 3 port (ceramic bearings):
http://www.horizonhobby.com/Products...rodID=ORI80647

Team Orion Alpha CRF ABI 3 port (ceramic bearings, CRF crank, new carb):
http://www.horizonhobby.com/Products...rodID=ORI80655

The CRF version will be available this month, but the other two are in stock. Honestly, if I were on a budget and looking to buy an engine, the non-ABI 3 port is such a screaming deal. All three of the engines provide plenty of performance and fuel economy.

FLHX1550 06-09-2010 03:58 PM

Telll ya what, I have a Orion CRF/ABI 7-Port Ceramic and after 2 gallons it is finally running good, and it is OMG fast. Havn't really tuned it for mileage, and though the local Orion driver says to tune it to 270 deg, I run 235 with it and mileage is good (I could prob get 9 minutes on a smooth dry track in my truggy).

If someone wanted to spend a little more on their engine, I would recommend this one.

Balance must be very good IMO, cause the first start I started it on was with a P3 OS Plug, and litteraly two gallons later of 30% B.T. race thru it and it is still like new.

AndyItalia68 06-10-2010 02:27 AM

So, now that the ABI CRF 3 port has been tested from many people out there, could someone give me an idea of how HSN and LSN should +- be once race tuned? I know many things have influence in it but +-... Thx in advance

us spec

I have a US spec .21 for sale if anyone is interested. only has 3/4 a gallon thru it, barely broken in
