O.K. try this again. Besides the 2 recommended pipes, 2057 and 2013, what pipes work on this mill? IE. the Jammin pipes, OS pipes, Dynamite pipes. What ever pipe was tried basicly. If you have tried different pipes please post your results.

dynamite 053 ...works well also....very durable

on the 3pt or 7pt

Hey Alan,

GRP carbs work really well on the Orion. If you cannot get a hold of one I think I have an extra Sirio carb on hand.

See you next week at the JBRL.

I've had a bit of bummer of a time trying to tune the orion carby so have since put an Os carby on with good sucess.

I have to warn you about changing carbs. The new generation Alpha CRF comes with the new aluminum body carburetor. It is a really good carb that is specifically designed to work with this engine. Maybe the older Alpha with the composite carb would benefit from switching carbs, but I wouldn't remove the carburetor from the new 3 port or 7 port CRF version.

3 port motor= the worst $200.00 dollar motor on the market. Mine never ran right from the get go. Then the bearings went out. After my experience a friend bought one only to have the front bearing leak from the start. Not a happy camper.:flaming:

 ARE YOU KIDDING?!! The Team Orion Alpha 3 port is difinitively the best engine in this price range PERIOD. I have one with 5 gallons though it, and I have a friend that could not be more pleased. In fact, I've never seen or talked to anyone who wasn't amazed and happy with this engine. Maybe your issues are operator error

cluffy1 05-29-2010 02:27 AM

these are the best engines i have had.

i have a 7 and a 5 port and both are great engines. the 7 port has just had it 17th ketre go through it and it is still going great. the 5 port has 8 letre through it. both engine have but loads of compresion left and it is time to change the con rod in the 7 port. look after your engine and you will get a great turn.

great engines!!!

Whats up guys. I never posted on this thread. Ive be thinking about getting a Team Orion in the future. Whats the engine that Cavaleri, King and Tebo are using? Is there a five and a seven port? Thanks:)

I believe in their buggies they are using the 3 and 5 port models.

Hi there Jud. Cavalieri seems to favor the 3 port, Cody runs the 3 port in buggy and the 7 port in truggy, while Jared is pretty much running the 7 port in everything. I know this doesn't help your decision much... The 7 port is a beast, so I would suggest only for the truggy (unless you have the skills of Tebo :)).

Thanks alot! They both seem to be good engines! I will decide soon:tire:

Kalgard Racing 05-30-2010 10:53 AM

I spoke with Jerod last week...he runs the 3 port in buggy and truggy all the time. He is running the 7 port for the NATS, but that is due to the elevation in Colorado.

I love the 3-Port, best running engine I have ever had, even my RB's.

I just wish I could get another....they are back ordered everywhere. Anyone know a shop that has one?

3 Port Help

I have a CRF 3 port with 1.5 gallons on it. It is by far the best engine I have owned from a performance standpoint.

But I thought they were suppose to get runtime too!

I am running the stock 7.0mm venturi and a Odonnell 97T and my temps are 250-270. I re-tuned yesterday for a day race in 95 degrees here in Arizona. Temps actually got to 290 yesterday, oops! But I couldnt make a 7 minute qualifier, when everyone else had no problems. Many were going 9+ minutes

I started questioning my tune, so I had Billy Fischer tune it. He said it was really good.

So, Pitpop? or someone with first hand knowledge. What's my problem? Can a 6mm or even the 5.5mm venturi increase my runtimes that much? 2-3 minutes? I can't see how.

I was in the pits for the Pro A-main and I saw first hand someone going 11 minutes with a Mike Truhe Orion CRF and I thought the 3 port was suppose to get even better runtime.

Thanks in advance,
David

Pit Pop,

do you know why the .21 CRF Wasp US spec comes with two low end needles, one is longer than the other... What, if any, is the advantage of the short needle?

Thanks for your advise.

PS the 2013 pipe is a blast, what a beutifull tune!

The longer needle gives you much more control of the midrange (and theoretically better mileage as the fuel is metered coming out of the spray bar). It's much easier to tune the short needle, and all the team guys run the short needle these days in the Alpha, but it couldn't hurt to try it for yourself.

It's tough to tell without looking at your rig, but yes, you should get MUCH better mileage. If you could tell me what type of pipe you are using, that can be a factor, and also what type of fuel, that makes a difference also. Normally guys are too rich on the bottom, and that can cause some mileage issues. Also, driving style. If you are wide open out in the fluff all the time, that will kill your mileage. The 7mm venturi is fine. I would discourage running anything smaller, because you will normally lean on the trigger more and it can make the mileage go down. The smallest we have comfortably run with 30% nitro is a 6.5.
