Go-Tech Engines Thread

I have a friend that has a caster grenade engine. that thing always starts out good but then the power seams to fade fast on it. as it gets up to temp just really falls off unlike a go tec. I thought they were 7 ports? that were modded?

The Caster Grenade I believe is a GO 5 port. It might have some subtle work done on the internals tho? I think the piston sleeve are interchangeable. Not 100% on that. I have not run the grenade yet, but most of the team guys really like them.

Works a treat.

@ grizz1
do you think its also good idea to shorten my long HSN on my 5 port or just leave it alone? what are the disadvantages/advantages upon doing so?
thank you
You should be able to buy a short GO needle (22 racer may have some), or you can just shorten it yourself. Shorten it from 1.6" down to 1.42" and just round the end off with some fine emery paper etc.
Works a treat.

Read back on this thread a few pages about how the long LSN carb tunes. Basically set the HSN at .25 turns in and leave it alone. Do all your tuning with the LSN, maybe tweaking the HSN a screwdriver width as a last adjustment to get the last 15% of the rev range nice and crisp.
The 086 pipe suits the 5 Port better then the 053, but it will run fine with this pipe.
Don't mess with the HSN needle.
It is only the long 1.6" LSN needles that can throw people off when trying to tune the GO motors.
If you read the explanations and follow the instructions on the last few pages of this thread, your motor will run fine on the long needle. If you prefer a more traditional style of engine tuning (easier for most to get right I feel), then shorten the LSN down to 1.42" and away you go. With this needle fitted the GO motors will tune just like any other nitro motor.

yep these motors can catch people out thats for sure with this needle just by the advise people have been saying and the tuning tips on massive mods web site is dam good advice , my brothers 7 port in his buggy is insane now blows most os ninja away
..........i think my bro just needs to learn a little throttle control but he drives it like he stole it

i also like what people said back a few pages about idle gap to .6- .9 that also makes a big differance when tuning the with a long needle still on the bottom end that was good advice also

Hi guys
where can you get good ceramic bearings from for my 5 pt, I am in australia but will ship them from overseas if I can get them.
Any help would be great and what is the best way to replace them?
Thanks

Replacing them is a bit of a long story to write here. Basically you strip the engine down to the bare block (removing carb O rings and all) then heat it in the oven at about 350 deg. Give it 5 - 10 mins to expand the crankcase then remove it and tap the bearings out with a wooden dowel. Put the new ones in while it's still hot, then leave to return to room temp. There are a few tricks you can do along the way to make it easier, but like I said it's a bit long winded to go into here. You can also buy a bearing removal tool - very handy but VERY expensive. Maybe your local RC shop has one and will change the bearings for you for a small charge.

you can buy the ceramic bearings direct from tko them selfs i have just bought some from them here is there web site tkocompetitiondev.com
or you can buy from massive mods they have them in stock

Hey guys ran into a problem with my 7-port. I went to remove the carb- I guess I have a old generation but the thermal sleeve is stuck in case and theres not much room to pull it out. Anybody run into this and solved this problem without ruining their case?btw Ive used heat with a heat gun and ive also baked the engine...

I would like to know which of the Go engine is the best for 1/8 buggy racing
I have the 7pt and it is very fuel efficient can last 10plus minutes, the 5 port has tons of torque
How is the 3port compared to these two?
Thanks
