JimMcClure.

I am a newbie to 1/12th scale also. There is alot of information here, it is helping me out a lot.

Question though.... You mention the rear tires have to be larger on the 12L4, is the demension you give the "Larger" demension already? Or do I have to go larger than 1.92"? I'm alittle confused.

I just starting racing 1/12, got a 12L4 and really like it, it handles very good.... the only thing that bothers me is to tape the batteries, I find it really annoying. Is there any other way to secure the batts on a L4, like velcro with a thin "tape" for under the chassis or somehing like it? If there is such a thing please post who sells it or post any pic that shows how to make it. Thanks
Jorge

nskn - Check your tweek and adjust your tweek screws on the T plate till both front tires lift off the ground at the same time, place a nickle on the front of each front tire, both should fall at the same time.(lift in the middle of the front of the chassis with a hobby knife). Use strong strapping tape to secure the batteries.

CarpetRacer - The L4 comes with rear bulkheads that only let you run tires down to a certain diameter, then you can't get enough ride height. You have to buy the dropped rear bulkheads from either AE or IRS to run the tires to the rims. I think they are $30-$40.

JLMG1971 - Tape is the most effective way to keep the batteries in.

cool...! worked much better now, thanks! a pitty they don't mention anything about how to setup the car properly as other makes normaly include at least some info in their manuals..

does anyone have any picture showing a good way to route the battery/motor cables?

i got a QC2 ESC and use deans connectors for both motor and batteries and with the Speed12 body, i cant fit the body properly as i've got trouble to get the cables to run low enough.

i was wondering if 1 of you guys can help me out? I got an L4 with trc purple front and gray back. Got thr car handling well untill i go to a hair pin turn. When this happens depending on the speed of the car one sides lifts up. on extream cases the car flips over. is my ride hight too high? My be i should cut the tires more? A bit confused...

fatdoggy 10-09-2004 08:32 PM

ALBERTO - What is your ride height?

ALBERTO 10-09-2004 08:35 PM

he front is a 4 and the back is a 5

just so u know the tires are pritty new have been trimmed once and I am mesuring the ride height behind each tire (i think that's right)

fatdoggy 10-09-2004 08:45 PM

It does sound high. If your track is smooth run 3-4mm Ft and 3-4mm rear, depending on how you like your car. The lower your ride height is, the lower your CG which will lessen the chance of traction rolling or lifting a wheel. If your track is bumpy run just enough so your car doesn't bottom out, no more.

ALBERTO 10-09-2004 08:46 PM

track is super smooth tight and fast at the same time.

Speedie 10-10-2004 12:06 AM

I run my ride height as low as 3 and no more than 3.5 I like the chassis even front to back. As for tire size On the L3 I would start them out at 1.70-1.75 fronts starting and 1.85-1.90 rears.

ALBERTO 10-10-2004 02:50 PM

Well i took the car to the track today and it ran well thank to all your advices... Thanks guys!!!!! But now i got a different issue. Now during a 8 min race the car flies for half the time. then drops out . In one case in the final heat my batteries just dumped out real bad!!!! still had a good 30 seconds left in the race. I was far enough a head of the 3rd place guy to take second.. Now this is what i got 4 cell smc that charger up to 3540mah, and the spur is 100 and the pinion is 26. not sue bit i think i might of charger the batteries at a high rate giving me good punch but crap run time ..... let me know what you think. thanks again ALBERTO....
