This is partially true. In coiled compression springs, like the one in our rc cars, spring rate is NOT determined/controlled by wire thickness ONLY. The wire diameter, the diameter of the coil/spring itself, and the number of coils are all taken into account in overall design of the spring.

Why are a lot of people fixated on the springs lately? Orange front that, pink rear that, $20 Kyosho this, Durango that, LOL. If you are as good the the factory drivers, taking the same line everytime, keeping the lap times the same or a few tenths of a second from each other, then it is time to get the speed tweaks here and there. Until then, save some more money for batteries, tires, etc.
Just an observation.

Answer this then...
Does wire thickness ONLY determine the RATE of a swaybar?
If the bar is bent, does it affect the RATE of the swaybar?
You are aware that a swaybar IS a spring in itself... right?
The thickness of the wire is what applies the resistance (rate) against applied force.
The thickness of the wire is what controls RATE.
Larger coils spread the same resistance (rate) across a wider area. This is why you hear people define a BB spring feel as 'different', 'smoother', etc. A larger coiled spring (same RATE, same wire diameter) does the same job easier than a small spring. Progression is a different matter entirely.

:double facepalm:
What does a swaybar has to do with anything? I thought you were talking about COILED springs, (linear, progressive, etc. etc.). You know the one in our rc cars?
Did you not read what I post, COILED SPRINGS (compression)? You are all over the place.

If everyone used the same definition when talking about any given subject... there would be no misinformation. Accurate information is what makes you a faster racer. How is it any different than thinking an 87t spur gear gives you more top end versus an 84t spur gear using the same pinion? Its wrong.
Sure the spur gear seems like an easy answer... but so many people STILL dont know which way to go to make the best of their setup.
Answer the questions, and you will realize why my face hurts so bad right now...
