I only run 17.5 at WCRC but since I switched to shorty I love it. The car is very responsive but not twitchy.

It also feels like there is more shock stiction on my car compared to my brothers I built my shocks perfect so I don't know what can be causing this

Matt, part of the problem is that more timing = less torque. LRP's come with 27deg built into the motor and then everyone runs the 4 dot insert, which reduces the timing another 10 deg so you are getting even more tourque. I checked with Brent at the race because I noticed that I was turning my endbell clock wise and retarding the timing if I ran that 4 dot insert like they suggest. He explained it to me.

On a track like we were on, I would have dropped that timing down quite a bit and run 23/81 gearing. Just to give you an idea, my buddy Chris was there and had the same 8.5 Reedy Sonic with stock timing and his car was insanely fast. He just couldn't translate that speed into fast lap times. And I believe Reedy 8.5 is what Mike Gay runs in his B4.1 because he helped me with gearing mine up at bumps.

you can always gear a smoother reedy for more torque. the two motors arent supposed to be geared the same with the same timing settings...

looking at maifields gearing with the lrp motor he was at 81/23 with -10* timing (reedy 2011), with the reedy motor he is at 78/20 with 15* timing (reedy 2012)
The LRP has built in timing so it was more like 17 deg. Not sure about the Reedy

bob,i just picked up a x12 17.5 to run in blink,i just set it up on one dot +5 degrees, thats advance correct,I'm pretty sure it is just wanna double check,17.5 blinky is about cranking it up without overheating!

If you are doing it right, it's gonna run hot LOL.

max endbell timing would actually be to take the 4 dot and put it in with the dot's facing inboard, or backwards if you will. That will bump your timing to max.

I would NOT run that much timing though if you do put boost in. Put 36/72 on for gearing. First time out, run 2 laps, check temp, run 4 laps, check temp. Then run 2-3 min and check temp. as long as you are in that 140-150 deg range, you are good. If you are too hot, go down 1 tooth and repeat

Don't just slap the pinion on and run 10 minutes before checking. Check a few times early on so that you make sure that you dont have something wrong, and then once you feel that everything is fine, check after 5 min.

Just remember that just because your battery will last 20 min now, you don't want to be out there for 20 minutes. You'll overheat the motor.

I dunno bout you guys... but ive always run the x12's HOT (around and above 200 degrees) and they shrug it off.

Every x12 17.5 i have had i could run combined timing close to 65 degrees and just adjust pinion for temp... or pull 5 degrees and go up a tooth and a half on the ratio (swap spur pinion).
