My cutoff for AAs is 4v. The battery life in my DX4S is positively astounding compared to any other Spektrum radios I've owned. The DX2.0 was a hog. The DX3C wasn't much better.

Maybe I'll just order up some LiFePo4 AAs. They're cheap and will fit with minimal hassle.

With the DX3R Pro I've had good sucess with it at club races but it failed me twice at big events. Blew the 4x4 SCT Amain at psycho as it just glitched so bad I couldn't even start the race, then later in the year at the Wicked Weekend I had a buddy turn my car on and it wouldn't re bind causing me to sprint up and down the driver's stand to get it going and didn't get practice laps, etc. and went from first qualifier in the B to not bumping up.

The first issue was with a DSM rx and since then my 4 cars are using DSM2 Will the DX4R address these issues? Anyone hear of them still glitching at big races with lots of powerful radios in play? I'm really not looking forward to drooping $1000 on a new radio system and RX's but sure as hell don't want to blow another big race either.

I've never had a problem with any Spektrum glitching, no matter how crowded the environment. Not sure why some people have. There was a race day once where someone brought in one of those FlySky radios (the one with the bogus FTC approval) and things got a little weird for pretty much everyone, regardless of brand. That's about it.

The flysky radios will cause issues to spektrum dx3r pro since it doesn't channel hop. The easiest way to solve it was to turn if off completely (wait 20 seconds), then turn it back on. This allowed it to pick a new channel, and the radio worked fine. The new dx4r pro is full channel hopping and I havent heard of any problems with it when it comes to channels.

You guys having any range issues? Saw on their site they state the range as only 100 - 200 feet. Seen youtube tests of the futaba's going out to 1000ft.

Not trying to be a hater, just that the DX4r seems like the best option for me, but really don't want a repeat of the glitching at big events.

That's the telemetry range only - separate function. The transmitter built into the receiver isn't as strong as the transmitter in the transmitter.

So to use Telemetry you still have to run that old shitty DSM Rx? Not sure why they bother including Telm if you can't use it in race conditions.

And to be fair i'm hearing pro drivers are switching back to the 4PK as the fancy new 4PX's are glitching.

At this point I'm not so concerned with glitching so much as being able to rebind at a distance at big events. Seemed moving to DSM2 fixed interference issues and I would expect DSMR to improve that even further. But since there is poor organization, electric drivers with no pit guy has to turn on the car and lay it down then stand inline for the drivers stand 2-3 races a head of time then either get someone to flip it on from 20yards away or leave the care an tx on burning batteries the whole time.

Just want to know it's going to turn on and get bound in that situation.

I think so. Let's face it, though, if you're racing you generally want lightweight and you're not going to have time to look at your radio screen for telemetry anyway.

eBay, many online stores. Look for lifepo4 aa, or lifepo4 14500. Be sure they're the right size before buying! You have to rewire the battery tray to work with two instead of four batteries, but that's not difficult. Finding those 1600mah versions (like in the picture) is tricky, though. Most are lower capacity.

Seems you could wire them 2s2p and run all 4 batteries with increased capacity?

You could, yes. Good call. Didn't think about that. Shown with and without balance lead.

Why does everyone want the hassle of charging batteries and worrying if they will hold up on race day. Pop some Energizer Lithium Ultimates in there and use them for months.

For me it's cost. I've run the same transmitter battery for years and only normally have to charge them once a month. Why continue to buy batteries just to toss em' in the trash when I can essentially buy one set and be done.
