I just got a Short Course Master esc and a v.3 17.5 for my SC10 FT Anyway what gearing should I start with (28/75 maybe)? I have a ton of nitro experience but very little brushless electric esc setup exp. so I would love a general idea on where I should start with timing, throttle profile, etc. Also the 17.5 has a vented can should I cover these when racing on loose dirt or not? Heck any advice at all would be great! Thanks!

Nope the receiver wire. The 180mm sensor cable is long enough although it being stiffer has me wondering if I should have gotten a longer one. My LHS is ordering an 8" wire for me and I will more than likely change the two once I get to the track and have it in my hands.

Huge thank you to Luke and Dustin Richards. I rarely get to race with anybody that runs Speed Passion gear so when they showed up yesterday I started in with the questions. Both were a huge help and Luke hooked up his programmer and set my ESC up. The only problem is he thinks my motor is bad because it now gets even hotter. I am thinking I am going to move down to an 8.5. What size pinion should I start with while running a 78 tooth spur gear?

what are you running right now exactly?
Ran my speed passion stuff again this weekend. No issues in SCT 4x4. Works excellent. Same as in 2wd SCT and ST .
great product for the money.

The ESC is a GT 2.0 LPF with a V2 7.5. I am unsure of the settings Luke put on there. The gearing is at 25/78. The motor comes off at around 130* but the ESC was at 190*. And they had me try more than one thing to get the heat down, none worked.

On the track, where are you topping out at down the longest straight?
Found this bit of info that I have used in the past:
That in mind, you should definitely find out what software is on your ESC as well as posting the setting here. With such a hot motor, I would think you would be using a bigger spur gear like an 84 or 87 tooth.

Although not always true, a rule of thumb is:
Hot motor, cool controller, cool batteries = undergeared
Cool motor, hot controller, hot batteries = overgeared
Warm motor, warm controller, warm batteries = happy components

I have nothing in front of me so I am going on memory.
No reverse
0% drag brake
3.2v per cell
DRRS mode I believe Luke put this at 7
I believe max brake force is at 50%
I believe initial brake force is at zero
Neutral range is the factory setting
I am unsure what Luke put the ESC timing at but maybe level 7 or 8. Changing this has no effect on the temps as I have tried several setting on this.
What else is left?
I don't know if you know who Luke is but he and his brother JP, not sure what relation Dustin is, but all three run up front at both local and national races. And I dumped Luke in both the first and second qualifier after stepping on my twinkie. He still continued to help me. He realized I wasn't trying to dump him.

Personally, I would put in a larger spur / smaller pinion combination to start with.
Based on what associated is saying in the manual, you should be geared at 81T spur with a 21T pinion for a ratio of 9.57 .
With using timing, you probably can go even lower on the pinion size.

I honestly don't know where it tops out at but it pulls hard all the way down. The shorter straights I don't come anywhere near top speed but I do not lack for acceleration. And I have no idea the size of the track but it is bigger than any other indoor track around here. The Ohio RC Factory is where I race. The reason I want to stay at 78 tooth on the spur is because I use the JConcepts spurs and they are expensive, but worth it.
