Help with Speed Passion Pro needed
 

Still new to RC hobby and especially with setting up ESC so please excuses my ignorance if I ask a less then intelligent question. I have tried some google searches and searching on this forum with not many results.

I’m having problems with original install of my speed passion pro esc. After installing and completing calibration, all lights go off on esc and motor makes a buzzing sound. I do have control of servo but motor does not respond. The harmonics of buzzing sound will change with moving the throttle.

My setup is following.
Sensored speed passion motor 10.5T, Speed passion pro esc with capacitor connected, Savox servo and Flysky it4 radio.

Would greatly appreciate if someone could throw me a bone and point me in correct direction… Thanks

i heard someone talking about the GT 2.1 Prostock last night. They said it was the same board as the LPF and can actually handle down to a 5.5 motor like the LPF even though it is marketed for 9.5 and up (spec racing) and has a lower profile heat sink.

Can you confirm one way or the other?

Initially sounds like a throttle calibration issue. What if you move the trigger forward? Maybe your throttle needs to be reversed. Double check all wiring as well.

It might handle a lower wind, but we do not recommend that in anyway. That ESC was popular in many spec/stock type classes in the US and even more so overseas.

The person you spoke with might be confusing the GT Pro 1.0 and 2.0 and LPF. Those are more similar. The "Pro Stock" is somewhat different. It's still a great ESC, but we do not release software updates for that line anymore. Any updates will be for Reventon type ESCs.

for the money, the GT2.1 Pro stocks are great ESCs, especially the price they are available at right now.

with most stock places around me going blinky anyway, pretty much leave that setting or do mod.

I thinking about getting a buggy for stock racing, 17.5, blinky. I am looking to stay in a price range that keeps the wife happy too. I was looking the Revention s but wondering your thoughts? What is the difference between the S and the R? I like that these are still being updated compared to the last series. Would I be better off with another prostock since I already have a programing box?

Answer...about 30amps :)

S is rated at 40 and the R 70amps. Both would come with the newer blue programming card.

I believe the S is a steal of a deal, but I can be biased. It's onroad, but at the recent USVTA Scale Nationals a guy ran the S version and led almost the whole race before he tapped...He finished 2nd overall.

I would get another prostock personally as speedpower has a great deal on them right now.

My bad Richy Rich. I thought you had speed passion. Essentially I was trying to say you might try changing the current limiter. This really tones a motor down.

thanks for the reply Nexus. I found this back on page 8 or so from when the esc first was released. If I try it for mod I will change the firmware first.

solo back to the WiFi Module and iOS7 (7.1 for me) I have had mixed results testing this unit. Sometimes I'm able to use all the functions and update firmware and change timing DDRS etc. it almost always reports an error of losing communication although it will still complete the task at hand….sometimes however it fails. Last week I tried to use it to update my two identical Reventon units. it worked fine (although it reported an error or two) updating the firmware on my 410 and also adjusting settings. it did not however work on my 210. I tried several times to update the firmware. No go. I ended up using my computer.

I have never had any trouble with the LCD programming cards though. Always works well and is pretty easy to use at the track.

I bought 2 Reventon Pro ESC's te replace my RS Pros and after installing them both I had a similar issue with one of them and I dropped my car while my finger was still on the throttle and when the car impacted on the floor it took off. Not understanding what the hell had just happened, I let off the throttle and tried again, and again nothing.

So I held the car while squeezing the throttle and smacked the car on my knee and the wheels started spinning again. I tried over and over but the only way to get juice to the motor was to impact the car. So I unsoldered everything, re-soldered and same thing, It was simply a bad unit.

I took that ESC back and they swapped me out and the next one was flawless and is still rocking as good as day one.

I suspect you're having a similar issue and I suggest you hold your throttle a bit and drop the car to see if it engages and kicks the power in. If it does you know what you need to do. If nothing, same outcome. Take it to the hobby shop you bought it from and get them to check it and process an exchange.

The current version of the App is not fully compatible with iOS 7x which is why it's hit or miss.

However, SP is working on the next version which will be fully compatible with post 7 iOS. ;)

yeah I knew we weren't compatible yet….someone else had been asking about it so I wanted to share my experience. I have actually had similar luck with the previous iOS 6 not staying connected….always been a little bit buggy.

I've also noticed the WiFi modules can get very hot and are a bit fragile. I had one fail only a few weeks after I received it.

Just a side note about my Reventon Pro unit. Did some great racing last friday and after finishing the mains I noticed my fan had stopped. I wasn't too worried since I finished the race and hadn't thermally failed during, I grabbed my temp gun to see. 127-130. Not bad for not running any fans and using a 6.5T motor, 6 minute mains too. This is the original version of the ESC too which doesn't have the same low resistance the newer model does. I would expect they are using even better FETs.

nice work Speed Passion. The new Masami stuff looks awesome. I might just have to buy a signature model.
