Viper RC -
for the old school 1/10 540 motors, was there a sweet spot for gearing and timing the 17.5?
I got one here that actually works quite well for the stock class even against newer motors, at the track I ran at recently, indoor carpet offroad it comes off like cold on a durango dex210 with a 69T / 33T gearing setup running max timing.
I am curious if I should go even bigger with the pinion size and if there is a certain timing value that works better.
Considering what the motor is though, works well.
Also, for an older motor option that I hear is still good, Amain has the Black editions for $50, not bad for anew motor.

Try adding timing, see what that does. If it gets hotter and not faster, turn the timing back and add gear and see if it'll pull it.
Both are easy changes to make and done one at a time, neither should mess up a run at the track.
It's always worth experimenting to see if there's more speed in it, but if it's fast and it runs cool, there's no reason to chase heat, that just makes the motor fade later in runs.

I do have a motor checker of sorts so I'll give it a look and see, just curious if anyone had some tips from there times with the motors till I move to something else.
The latest update apparently, i bought my esc/motor back in 2012/2013 and used it for a hand full of races before putting it on my shelf while i was gone for a few years. My instruction booklet says i have the A55+ firmware
Do you have a ProGauge or EZ-link? If so when you plug it in it will confirm what firmware you have on it. I will message Nick to send you the link if you don't have the newest one.
