I've searched through this thread and cant find what I'm looking for and I know I read it some where in here. I just got a new radio, MT-4, and I'm using the Copperhead system. After I calibrated the ESC with the new RX I now have a lot of "play" in the trigger, I have to pull it about 1/4 way before anything happens. I'm pretty sure I read that someone else had the same problem but cant remember the solution or find it. Does anyone know what I need to do?

So I got my VTX8 installed and paired with a 5.5t VSTXL motor. Feels good, but I am lacking that "punch" I had with my MMP. It seem to be smooth to accelerate, but top end feels slow and slow to get there.

On my MMP, I was running max start power, and 4* timing at 15k RPM.

What settings on the VTX8 do I need to adjust to make it feel "punchier" and less sluggish?

Pic of the install.

Got it to run a little better. Added 5* of boost and 5* of top speed. Then I ran into a problem where it felt like I was hitting a rev limiter. Ended up being I had the voltage cut off too high for my half charged battery.

Anyone have timing suggestions for a 3700kv motor in a slash 4x4? Motor is set at 17* static.

. Where is the punch setting? Try it at 80% Make sure the esc is set to 2 pole, forward power all the way up. Pwm maybe around 12,000. After that, I would try taking out static timing just to see what it does to the punch.

Tried 10% and 100%, neither one felt much different. I'll change PWM and check forward power. I can't change static timing. Bought the motor used and the screws are stripped.

Going to run it tomorrow and see how hot it gets. On the MMP, the motor was only running 130ish. So may bump gearing up a tooth.

For 2wd short course is the vtx8 overkill? Would the VTX10R be a better choice?

my ideal setup for 2wd SCT would be:
VTX10 Black Edition
7.5 T motor with optional 12.8 rotor for extra torque
Pro 6 Super Cap.

This setup is also perfect for 17.5 too. Just swap out the motor!
One other thing, I always tell people if there is even the smallest possibility that you might run 4wd at some point, spend the extra couple of bucks and get the 'R' versions of our esc. It's not needed for 2wd over 6.5T motors, but I have found that I hold onto electronics a lot longer than cars

Aussie - also remember that is a 2 pole motor, not a 4 pole. Its not going to feel punchy. It will have more power then a 540 motor because of the size, but you really can't compare it to the feel of a 4 pole motor, because it 2 pole.

It will have some "play" because its sensorless system. You can turn up the Start Power setting to smooth out the sensation some as well.

Is there somewhere that shows what the install method and reason for the Pro6 Super Cap?

I was thinking of running stock. It appears that the 12.8 rotor is not ROAR legal. Is that correct? and the 17.5 comes with the 12.5 rotor standard?

we've posted it here in this thread, but the benefits we saw during our testing were improved punch, improved run time, lower temps. As far as install, just solder it right to the terminals for the ESC (battery posts). Match black to black and red to red. Don't change the length of the wires as it will change the effectiveness of the cap.

Correct the 12.8 is not a ROAR legal rotor. Also correct that our 17.5's come with 12.5mm rotors. I did try the 12.8mm in mine for 2wd buggy but I felt it was the wrong choice for the track I was on.

Just to give you an idea of how much torque the 12.8 produces, at Motorama I ran it in practice to get some hard data on it since no one really had any yet. I was doing 6-10 min runs with my B4.2. I had the timing set at 50deg on the motor and was geared 40 / 69. Yes I did say 40. Motor temp after 6 min of racing was 101 degrees. after 10 min it was 110. I would have gone higher but I didn't have any other pinions

When I swapped back to the std rotor, I was at 36/69 and was temping at 135-140. So that 12.8mm rotor should be a beast in a truck or touring car.

My next item on the check list is going to be to use the 12.3 and 12.0 rotors in 2wd buggy and gather some hard data on them too. Look for that later in the fall when we get indoors.

I understand that. But I have been running this motor with this gearing for over a year. But it was hooked to a Mamba max pro. Guess I need to play with the VTX settings.
