More details to come, I'm getting in FL getting ready for Snowbird Nationals. But I just wanted to say thanks to the guys who attended the Reedy Race. I think Travis finished 6th overall. Won a couple heats. Michael Guzman finished about 14th in 2wd Open, after a couple top 5 qualifying rounds. Paul and David ran well, saw both of the, show up in some pics on websites. Also Neil TQ'd 17.5 SC at the Venom Jam, didn't hear how he finished. All around good weekend for Viper!!

I am thinking of switching over to viper, is there a site with esc setup sheets on it? All does anyone use the vtx8 in the sc104x4?

DaveG28 01-28-2013 06:18 PM

Hi all,

Still looking for feedback on the vtx8 and how people are finding these do in E8 class?

Specifically whether the bec is handling servo's fine or if you are having to run caps or an external bec? Also what's increments of voltage can the bec be set at?

Also has anyone run it with a Thunderpower motor? How did it go?

AndrewTom 01-28-2013 06:22 PM

the vtx8 hasn't been out very long.
my vtx10r has no issues running my savox 1258TG servo, with my spektrum SR300 RX if that helps, no caps or anything in my 22sct. the bec voltage level can be set in increments of .1 volts (Iex. 6.0, 6.1, 6.2) up to 7 volts for my vtx10r, i don't know how high the voltage on the vtx8 can be set, but i do know it has a 5 amp BEC like the vtx10 and vtx10r

DaveG28 01-28-2013 06:38 PM

Oh, also, is it possible to get spare fans for the vtx8?

rider313 01-28-2013 06:59 PM

Yes spare fans are a avalible for the VTX8. The internal BEC easily powers 7.0volts to my savox 1267 on a 2s lipo pack. That means it will have no issues with the 4s packs of the 1/8E's.

Hey Dave, Fred Perkins has one in his Ebuggy and is just waiting for a motor. Hit him up and I'm sure he'll give you a run down.

So far we both love the reg 10th scale 540 stuff so I have no doubts that the 550 stuff will be equally impressive.

Tobz173 01-28-2013 07:23 PM

Just wanted to let the guys at Viper know that i ordered a copperhead, 5100kv combo with a proguage from amain purely from the review that was on rcsoup, and reading the success people have in this thread.

The rcsoup review was most relevant though, as i am running a ssc slash, which has given me a good starting point in gearing and setup.

Hoping my order arrives by this weekend to give it a bit of a whirl over the weekend. 5100kv is probably way to much, but i will probably run it in a toned down state full time, i just like knowing that i have more power there if i ever need it.

Have a question about the BEC voltage when a running a VTX10/R on 2S. What happens when the voltage of the pack gets below the set BEC voltage?

DaveG28 01-29-2013 10:32 PM

Sorry for being a bit slow, I only see one fan for sale, is the vtx8 using the same fan as other viper esc's?

Also, just to check, can I adjust the bec voltage from the progauge?

JJay03 01-30-2013 10:01 AM

I noticed the plastic cover that you loosen and use to adjust timing on my motor is a bit warped and I have not been over heating the motor. Anyone have that issue?

The BEC still maintains the voltage it is set at.

Don't worry you'll speed up when you get the VTX8. ;)

This is tha fan, yes they are the same for all the VTX models.

And yes again, you adjust the BEC voltage with the pro gauge.

Been running a VTX8 in my ebuggy for a couple weeks now. The power is smooth and predicable.
No issues with BEC and Hitec 7955.

What is the best version of software to run with on the vtx10r Esc, I have the orange one I got at Christmas time. Wondering if I should update it?
