you should be fine if it's new. I mentioned the firmware if you were buying a used one. As soon as you power it up and hook the proguage to it, you will see the firmware version.

Like Bob said, we have been selling esc's with that software for like 6-8 months (can't remember the exact date, to many cars crashing on the oval right now can't concentrate). So you shouldn't have any issues.

You do need to have the PCLink cable to plug into a computer to update an esc if needed. VLink is available on our website as a free download, and it always includes the latest software.

Cheers guys, if it does turn out the shop has an old one, is it updatable to latest spec by:

1. Using pc link to update to a55
2. Changing to the new capacitors

Or is it not possible to update an old to a new?

I would just get the black edition vtx10 or vtx10r. they will have even better caps and i think they come with a55. I have read that changing the caps is no fun. And yes the pclink can be used to update firmware and change esc settings.

all BE come with a55. If you get an old Orange, you can update via PC Link. Th new cap will give better BEC performance and some strength in braking as well.

Either way, as long as you have a55, you will be happy :)

I apologize, I don't know the firmware version for the VTX8. I haven't had one yet. It may be the same, but I'll see if Nick can confirm this as well.

Thanks for all the help guys, now a proud owner of both a vtx8 and a vtx10r!

anyone know how much it is to have the caps upgraded on the vtx10 if you send it in?

I just finished my sct410 build and put in that combo. The truck flys around the track on a 15 tooth but I could not quite clear a tripple so I just went to a 16 tooth but have not run it yet. Our club race for this weekend has been canceled
so I have not had a chance to race it yet but the Viper combo should do real good.

RavensNightFury 02-02-2013 03:51 AM

Yeah I was thinking putting it in mind see how it went for out doors track
Or should I go with
Viper R/C Copperhead-R ESC & VX4R.51 5150kV 4-Pole 550

meyankee 02-02-2013 03:54 AM

I am running mine on a large outdoor hard pack clay track and it runs great.

RavensNightFury 02-02-2013 03:58 AM

Minds lose with dirt clay and grass that's why I ask its a build for 1/8 scale

tony montana 02-02-2013 08:31 AM

what feature on the pro gauge do I need to use to stop my vtx10 from cutting off after a certain amount of time from just a still position?

Go into misc control then to auto power off.
