Wildcat -- my guess is that you were holding down the VPort button (power button) too long. There is a way to change profiles without the ProGauge (yes, some people don't want to spend the little extra for it), so we had to put in steps to change through the switch, that is probably why you were having trouble. Its just a one time push.

As for the additional power -- check the Slew Rate to see what rating its on - higher is more powerful. And your saying so much power it tears the tires off the rim is a bad thing? :sneaky: :tire: :tire:

Slew rate is the default for profile 3. It is set at 8. Should I lower it? I am running 13.5 boosted. with 35deg boost and 10 deg turbo. same as with the a30 firmware. As for the profile 8 issue, maybe. like i said, I have issues with the button config.

YES lower it! That is very steep...this is one thing I don't like about the new firmware, with the previous generation you could set the rate in deg/rpm and that was great. The new system is too much like the BH for me.

For my boosted profile I was running with the slew rate set to like 2 or 3.

ok......So I woke up and read what was posted last night. I decided I wanted to start with 15 deg timing and 5 deg boost and increase as needed and based off temps. So I hooked up the pro gauge and after making the changes and saving them.......I am stuck at profile 8 again and my changes to profile 3 didnt save......GRRRRRRRRRRRR. I will list my steps and hopefully you can see where I am doing it wrong, if not i will make a video tonight.

1) Turn on radio. I cant ever get it into program mode with the radio off.
2) plug in the battery and pro gauge
3) Push the red button one time
4) wait for the esc to finishing booting up
5) press the red button for 1 second (sometimes it shuts off after 1 second, so I start over)
6) When the 2x orange lights turn on, I click the connect to device in the PG
7) The first time this morning it came up with Profile #3, but never again after that.
8) clicked on change settings
9) changed the slew to 4, changed the timing to 15 and the turbo to 5. Verified the changes.
10) exited back to the main menu and clicked save changes.
11) Unpluged the PG
12) turn off the esc (sometimes holding the button down for 3 second while in program mode would not power it off, so I would just unplug the battery)
13) Push the button once and wait for the boot sequence to finish
14) The the radio and realize something is wrong as it is super slow. It is faster in reverse than forward and I disable (never set it to practice mode...)
15) plug in the PG and push the red button for 1 second.
16) connect to the device
17) PG says I am in profile #8.............

It is ALWAYS #8 when it messed up. It is like I am setting it back to some default. After the firmware was updated, it automatically went to #8. Also, then I load profile #3, all of those setting changes i made last time didnt save, even though I did this like 5 times an always saved. I even went as far as to save after each and every change. So far it seems like only the PC Link can configure the esc... Could use some help.

I have not had this problem but there is one thing I do differently. Between step 11 and 12 I push the power button. Not hold, just 1 push. The ESC goes into the run mode. Then I shut it off or unplug the battery.

I have tried that also, but only once. It still seems like my profile changes should have saved. it seems my the profile change and the setting changes are not sticking for some reason. Does the PG need to be updated? I know on the HW esc's you sometimes need to update their lcd programmer also.

Grasschopper 12-13-2012 06:52 AM

Yes for sure you need to hit the power button just press and release after hooking up the proguage or vlink...at least that is my understanding. Do you still have the vlink? If so go in, reinstall the firmware and do it this way.

The SUPER cheap VXT10R I got on here was because the user had done the in and out of programing mode incorrectly and his ESC was acting strange. I simply loaded the new firmware and boom it functions perfectly.

Keys are to make sure you hit enter when you save or load a profile (I do it twice just to be sure) and then after disconnecting from the programing port hit the ESC power button once and wait for it to go back into run mode before doing anything else.

Bob Barry 12-13-2012 06:56 AM

here's how I make changes.

Hit power
hold button for about 2 seconds to switch to link mode
plug in link
click link to speedo
make adjustments
click save changes
click again until it says "changes saved"
unplug link
press power button to go into run mode
profit

I can do it with or without radio being on. If you can't make it work by doing this, then Nick or one of the other guys is going to need to work with you.

Also just in case you didn't, I always do a new 1 touch setup after updating firmware. No matter what speed control I use.

Wildcat1971 12-13-2012 06:59 AM

yeah, I hit enter many times when saving the changes. I will try to save the changes, unplug the PG and hit the button once to put it in run mode. I figured I must be exiting incorrectly. I did notice when i used the PC Link to configure the esc. After I unplugged the cable from the switch, the esc automatically booted itself into run mode. It does not do this when unplugging the PG cable, so I suspected something was going wrong there. So instead of powering down right away, I will try to put it in run mode before power down.

Yes, I still have the PC Link cable. I might reflash it, but I think it was dont correctly. When I ran the software, it came up with a window telling me that I must update my firmware. I hit ok and it did it. Nothing out of the normal happened with the upgrade.

So at this point, I assume that if you incorrectly exit the PG configuration is does not save the changes (even though you hit save) and sets you at profile #8. This is all normal behavior?

Ok Bob, I will assume my issue is not going into run mode after doing all the changes. I still dont get why it reverts to profile #8 or the changes never save even after it says the changes were saved. I will try again tonight after work. Once I get it working right, I am going to make a "How to video" and post it on youtube. I tried to search youtube and could not find any how to videos that were worth a crap.

Um...I'm not sure the profile #8 thing is normal. I'm sure the Viper guys will chime in once they wake up.

Also did you recalibrate after the firmware update? I believe you need to do it then. This shouldn't affect the profile but just wanted to make sure.

lol, I recalibrated like 4 times. Mostly because I didnt know profile #8 loaded and I was confused about going faster in reverse than forward.

I would start there and see what happens.

Troubleshooting is just like tuning. Start with a baseline and only change one thing at a time and compare results.

Since I know my method works, think of that as the hot setup

nikos2002 12-13-2012 08:16 AM

just had a quick minute to try and catch up on the thread between meetings.

You do need to go back into "run" mode after you have saved your changes on on the progauge. Unplug the gauge and press one Vport one time to be in run mode again.

think of it like updating a program in windows and it tells you to restart your computer, you turn it off but not back on -- it always acts funny, next time you turn it on. Hope that analogy makes sense.

I will see if I can put something together tonight to help better explain or show whats happening.
