when you hook up the pro gauge it will tell you the version of firmware. and you need a usb adapter to change it. I thought the pro gauge might act as the connector but it does not. But the pro gauge is super pimp. The batter checker and servo checker function are cool.

If you just bought it from Viper, it should be fine. The pro gauge does not update firmware, but when you plug it in and link it, it tells you what version your connected ESC is running. The USB connector is what you need to update.

Basically what Wildcat just said

The progauge will not update the firmware. If you run at bumps just let me know you are coming and I will bring the cable and my laptop. I will be glad to update it for any one who asks.

Guys, a couple of VTX8 questions:

1. Does it have a pluggable fan, and will replacement fans be available? Fan issues have been a real bug bear for me in 8th!

2. What do you need to be all set...if I get the esc with pro gauge is there also a pc link required for updates?

Thanks,

Dave

Yes the fan is replaceable. Bolts to the top with a couple of screws and plugs into the side of the ESC

I would just get the ESC and a ProGauge, beyond that, if there are firmware updates, you do have the option of buying the PC-Link then, or they have offered doing updates at the Service Center if you ship it there (if you aren't near anyone who has one)

New qualifier track record with my Viper powered Caster buggy today. 1st 16 lap on new layout that went in last Wed. I'm running a VTX10R and 7.5. I have never been so happy with a esc and motor like the Viper stuff.

How is your fastest lap 2 seconds the 4wd buggy lap?

OMG23RC 12-10-2012 02:11 AM

guys how well would a normal vtx10 B.E handle a 7.5 in a 4wd buggy?

I believe that was '16.5min XX seconds laps' where the rest of them were '18.xxx seconds'

I think he is asking why he doesn't have the buggy record as well if he set the fastest qualifier with his Caster 4wd buggy.

That is the fastest qualifier run for any class and it was 16 laps at 5 minutes and 21 sec. I had a really bad last lap as 21 sec is kinda slow. The other stuff on that board is single fast laps....I hope that helps... After I took that pic it was changed to 16-5.21

Has anybody tried the optional rotors in a 17.5 blinky setup? We had a big race over the weekend and it came up that the fast guys were using bigger rotors. The fast guys were also able to make a triple with ease and I am wondering if the bigger "torque" rotors would help.
If so, how does it effect top speed, gearing, etc?

stu541 12-10-2012 11:01 AM

Colin, the viper 12.5 rotor is very strong. I tried the high rpm and didn't like it in blinky. I would try gearing.. I know it sounds low but I am geared 75/29 in blinky and feel just fine with that. Loads of torque and plenty of rpm.
