easier answers first - the motors come set at 30º. And are true to settings.
Settings I used last weekend w/VST10.5 (can timing 30º): Throttle Freq - 8000hz Punch - 95 Power - 95 (small track turned Punch and Power down slightly) Brake - 98% Brake Freq - 2500 hz Drag Brake - 20 Smart Brake - Disabled ESC cut off - 220 Motor cut off - disabled Battery cut off - 6.4v Blinky mode Set Up Pages - Looking for a better way to set up the information on the pages. Takes too long for he website people to post them like they did The IIC set ups and the files are little difficult to use in the forums. But working on it. Not sure if anyone will be at SIGP this weekend. Being so close to the holiday's we aren't "pushing" people to races. We have from AZ drivers that may be there on their own -- but no one has mentioned it to me directly. |

Ricky Boobby - Smart Brake --- your on the right idea, to feel the effect you want think about starting higher with the RPM. Like Bob said, this has a bigger effect in touring than in off road. Issue we had with it in in off road is if you the smart brake is too high you lose control of the nose during a jump (brake kicks in, nose drops, hard to get it back up). that being said, depending on the layout and how you drive, it could work.
If you start with a higher Trigger RPM and Max Strength (like 10,000 and 75%) and low drag brake (5% or 0), you should see a quick deceleration and them a roll as it transitions to regular drag brake. You probably wouldn't use that much on track, but it should show you a difference in the pits. Where if you disable Smart Brake and turn drag brake up high (like 75%), should decelerate pretty quick. Best way to test on track is to take a few "baby steps" and experiment with the settings. Finding a good Trigger RPM and Max Strength for the corner (or corners) you are looking at and them adjusting from there. From my experience, there is not one setting that will work for everyone, too many variables. I could be wrong, but that's my opinion. But its fun to experiment with and see how it effects the handling and hopefully helps lap times. I did try what you are saying and it clearly worked just as you say. I had the trigger rpm so low because I was testing in my garage so I couldn't get the speed high enough but I could see the transition. What I am trying to do is basically opposite of what your saying. I am trying to get a weak drag brake at high speed and strong drag brake at low speed. I find that the strong low speed brake helps getting into and through to midway in the turns but it will of course cause spin outs on the high speed turns. Being able to have the weak brake at high speed would also alleviate some of the jumping problems. I realize that the software probably was not intended to do this. |
It just takes a little experimenting. Also depends on motor (sorry if I missed what you are using). Pick a point to start. Say trigger rpm 12k, brake 10, drag brake 30. When on track work on the trigger rpm first. Test a couple different settings to try the feel. Then work on drag brake to get the combo you like.

i just wnat know if vtx8 wil come with progauge ? do you know what price on
vt8 esc ? |
Just finished practice. 124 on both the motor and esc. Using profile 3. It is definitely softer feeling than me BH. Makes the car feel spongy but easy to drive I guess.

Hmm I surprised it was that low. What is your punch setting?

100% punch. 35 deg timing with 10degree top end timing. I am having all kinds of issues with the esc. just annoying stuff, like wont turn off with button. really a pain to get it into programming mode. I ended up at 135 deg on the motor and 128 on the esc. I raised the pwm to 12k on the throttle and it was a little better. But the BH i could run my motor at 105 deg and pull wheelies. But.... I do believe the braking and over all smoothness is higher with the viper. I am hoping the firmware upgrade will fix some of my on/off issues and putting it into program mode.

12 deg /sec slew and 13000 end with a 2k start rpm. I am still on the a30 firmware. hoping to upgrade soonish.

make sure the throttle is in neutral or it wont turn off, if you hold brake while trying to turn it off it wont work.

I know that when Fred switched his firmware to the A55 he noticed more power instantly. He said he changed nothing else but it was like his ESC just woke up all of a sudden. I would try that ASAP.
He also had issues with turning it off from time to time now that I think about it. Since he did that firmware upgrade, I don't think he has had a single problem. I would make sure you check this first before doing anything else. I'm betting that is your issue. I never ran anything but the new firmware and I never had these issues. |
lol, I am trying. Should have ordered it when I got the esc. But I am on a buying freeze right now. I handed my wife my list and now just need to wait for xmas. I have been in trouble many times for buy things I wanted in December only to find my wife also bought me the same item. Had xmas presents thrown at me one year, when I bought all the stuff I wanted and my wife had to return everything she got me, lol.
