Viper RC -

I run the Viper Copperhead in my TEN SCTE and I was about two minutes into the race main tonight when it shutdown. I went down, picked up my vechile and was able to turn it back on. When my truck shutdown, I was not in a middle of a jump or close to one. Given that you have to hold down the button down to shut it off, do I need to send it in for service?

Some have asked for a setup with the VST8.5 in a SCT truck.
Here is what I ran 2 weeks ago and the truck was very good all the way around. It is a pretty soft setup, not aggressive at all, but the track was loose and rough.
Th 1.295 rol lout was with 88/21 gearing in the Losi XXX, so calculate accordingly for a SC10 or a truck with a different transmission ratio.
On the SC10, a 87/22 would be 1.283 (geared lower) and a 87/23 would be a 1.342 (geared higher)

I wonder why I have to adjust the PWM Frequency on an VTX10R ESC for different motors. My LRP SXX TC Spec V2 runs with motors from 5,5 to 17,5 withouth a problem - and without any user adjustment. It would be nice to get some values for different motors.
I run an orion 6.5 T in a durango DEX410 4WD and a LRP X11 9.5T in a 2WD SCT.
An auto PWM sensing mode would be very nice

TopAs - you don't have too..... but everyone has a different feel or a different want for different applications. Regardless of car, I am about 4k or 5k when I run a 17.5 -- but I let a team driver drive my buggy and he said he would raise it if it was his car to smooth out the power. Lower wind motors I run higher freq. You can adjust as much or as little as you think will help you.

jasontraci - Have you run it since it happen? Even just to try it out. One thing I have noticed as we move into warmer times is that even if you are close on heat, and you crash or stop for a few second, that head will build up an trip the thermal. Paul Sinclair had a battery terminal brake inside his battery at Motorama, caused his car to shut off, he borrowed mine the rest of the weekend - at least my batteries ran fast
.
Its hard to say not being there at the track with you. Would be interesting to know if you tried it again - even up and down the street, to see if it worked correctly.
BTW, spend 25 minutes today trying to figure out why my new test esc would not program - only to find out I had it plugged into the wrong spot on the receiver -- I have been doing this how long.............

Wish I could tell you why it happen, glad to hear its running!!!
Sometimes these things just happen to the best of us...... let me know if you ever see anything else strange with it.

Hi All
i need some help with under standing PWM.
if i am running a 17.5 motor and have the PWM set at 6400 Hz what effect would i have if i change it to 16000 Hz or even down to 2000 Hz. does it change the torque or rpm of the motor through the Hz range or am i way off in logic.
can any one please explain.
cheers

The issue with the Copperhead motors is that they can pull allot of gearing. They can lug allot.
On the same track, I was better off wit a 13T pinion. The truck really wasn't any slower at all, and honestly, might have been a little faster with the lower gearing.
Also, running profile 5, it has the most aggressive settings. Brake is 10, punch is 7 and timing is 7. Even though the Copperhead ESC has a fan on it, it is possible to get it to shut down. It will try to protect itself. Settings that high will tend to just make heat unless you are geared down. Also, with a brake setting of 10, unless you are running on asphalt, is VERY aggressive. Aggressive brakes can contribute significantly to ESC temps.
If you do not have a ProGauge I would recommend getting one, it will let you refine the profiles more to your track and application. If you have no access to one, see if you can find one to borrow one. If not, change to profile 2 or 3.
