Yes, 2 posts. I'm not a big fan of forums. But, seeing this seems to be the only place Viper has anything to say, I posted.
Making sure the product is top notch is great. But not having any product for 10 months, not so great. I understand not wanting old stock left over. But, maybe you should have timed it a little closer to the new product actually coming out. Think of it from a customers stand point.

I expect that this break in the product line up was out of their control. If the factory won't build Viper products anymore or an investor pulls the rug then the Viper guys don't really have much choice in this. I just hope that the new products are as good as the old ones, I might just buy one of the last remaining VTX10R BE to make sure I can keep using these awesome speedos for as long as possible.

We deeply take our customers considerations into account and that is why we do everything we can to make sure the products are exactly the way we want them before we sell them. Sometimes in the process you even find more performance - a better idea. It might change the schedule now, but 6-8 months from not no one will remember the delay -- just the fast products.

RptrKlr and Badger -- yes, some things in the process happen outside of our control -- trust me, we would have loved to have everything flow a little closer together, but sometimes business just doesn't let you do that. From being in the industry for 20 some odd years - I have never seem a company have to take the hit we did, and stay operating. We re-invented ourselves, because stronger, and soon we will be bring you guys some great new products. We never went away.....we just changed how we were doing business. It would make a great short story some day..

Hey guys, I wanted to let you know that I was having some problems with my Viper vf4.40 motor and I had to send it in for repair. Viper took care of the problem free of charge under warranty
Thanks Nikos.
I wouldn't think that if Viper was going the way of the dodo bird, that they would repair a 5 month old motor, no charge. I'm sure they could have easily said it was abused or some story along those lines, then walk away.

No... its a business that does things right.. we would rather not make sales, than sell something before its ready. Can't wait for everyone to see what we have been working on...

BTW - we haven't gone away... TQ's and A Main performances by team drivers on both the east coast (J Concepts Indoor Nationals at RCE) and west coast (Gold Cup at Tacoma RC).
Thanks for sharing your 2 posts on rc tech with us!!!

Nick, good to hear that you and Viper are still around, chin up dude!
I hope that your new esc' shave the same functionality, quality and performance as the VTX line. For me one if the best bits is real simple, the V Port and being able to program without faffing with sensor or receiver leads, the fact that the punch control is so good as well, blows the socks off of Orion speedos! Look forward to seeing your new stuff.

8.5turn motor in for a repair that just died at the beginning of the straightaway during a practice run. This was my first run of the day and the truck had only been on the track about 3 minutes. I took the truck to my pit and switched a sensor wire just to see if that was the cause (the motor was paired with a viper speed control) Still no movement, then a small puff of smoke appeared. I was told that my vehicle was probably improperly geared. It wasn't. I race along side the team drivers for the vehicle I owned (X factory) and the gearing was identical. I ran no timing and my temps were never alarming. I was offered to take advantage of their trade in program. I declined as another motor would have been within about 10 bucks of what I just paid for mine after shipping. Instead I put a hobbywing v10 in my vehicle. Over 18 months later its still going strong. Makes better power and the quality is superior as well. Here's a copy of on of the emails I got back from Viper customer service
"We looked at the VST 8.5 motor that was sent in today for warranty review. Upon investigation it appears the motor was subject to high heat which caused the insulation on the wire stacks to melt. This allowed the metal wires to touch each other which would have caused a failure in the motor.
Typically there are only a few reasons this type of situation would occur:
- Gearing - if a motor is geared too high if would run hotter than usual
- Run time - as the vehicle is run longer the heat will build up with the motor and speed control, at some point (depending on gearing and time), the temperatures will start to rise quite quickly because of the overall heat.
-Boost/Timing - if not set up correctly boost and timing can cause damage and excessive heat due to abnormal RPM's being run on the motor.
The pictures attached show the stator wire stack from your motor on the right and a new stator on the right. Also the picture shows that the heat inside the motor was high enough to leave burn residue on the metal top and bottom end caps. The second picture is a closer show of the wire stacks, showing damage to two of the three wire stacks. As a note, if a manufacture defect occurs in the motor, it would stop operation, it would be possible to see discolor on one wire stack, but not a complete melt type of situation.
We do have a Trade In/Non Warranty process that would help to replace the motor at a discounted value. If your desire, you could also use the trade in option to get a new speed control instead. Information is available at www.viper-rc.com/tradein.php.
Please let me know if you have any other questions about the warranty or Viper products.
One of the local viper sponsored guys seems to be running prototype motors i spotted the maclan stickers on his car and he covers his car up
he looks fast so im pretty excited to see what comes of this. The new design of the brand is pretty sweet as well based off their website.
