So*Cal - we did have a shipment of motors several months ago that would smell a little during the first few heat cycles. I think it was an lubricant burning off inside the motor - I had a 7.5 do that to me.
What motor were you running? Couple things to check - drive train, gear mesh, verify on the right profile (esc -just to be safe). I wouldn't think it would get that hot under normal conditions. |

Hey everyone. I do not remember where I say it, but there is a paper/ online form that has a description of all the pro gauge setting changes. If someone knows the link or if it's in one of the manuals can you please let me know.
Also I came off a 7 minute main close to 200* last night. I have no boost or timing set, and the can timing is what it came from the factory with. I am running a Team C SC with 21/86 gearing on a medium/ large outdoor dirt track with medium traction. The motor has a very slight burnt smell to it now, but still runs strong. My friend was running his at 20/86 in the Team C SC as well, with no boost or timing, and it came off cool. You could also have your friend try your motor and see how temps are, just in case your driving style could be affecting this. Basically, eliminating all potential issues to drill down to the root cause. |
Just received my VTX-10R/8.5 motor and Pro Gauge on Friday. Did my install yesterday and have started to program today using the PRoGauge. I can't seem to get it out of RaceStock/Blinking Mode. Should it stop blinking when in Profile 2?
|
No profile 2 while more for modified motors still is a no boost or blinky profile from the factory, you can change it if you want using the pro gauge.

So how would I get rid of the green blinky? Never mind, just figured it out! |
Good stuff
Recently got on board with viper and still need to throw the esc and moter
I am running a b4.1 and need a no timing/boost 13.5 setup sc10 running 17.5 stock no timing/boost I will switch to mod soon Just for know stock is good. Hearing ALOT and reading ALOT of good feedback and I really like the prices for these, good for the beginner who wants a system that is cheaper than the rest and calls for all the track rules like no timing/blinky mode. I will get back to all and report the race day after I run.. But if somebody would help with my 2 car setups that would really be great! thanks:tire::D |
Hey guys thanks for the replies. The chassis was completely free of all binding and slippage the run that it heated up on. I has some slipping in the qualifier but for the main it was all squared away. I consider myself a good driver, and do not allow any more tire slip than needed.
Just smelled it again right now. It's not super strong but is apparent. I hope it is just the lubricant burning off. I will run it in my SC10 this Friday to see if there is any difference. Can someone please explain the hz settings for throttle and brakes? And where it should be set at. I had both on the middle setting. @ nikos2002, what gears are you running in your tq? |

The number is total volts...so your right 6.4v would be 3.2v and so on......... The number divided by 2 would equal your cut-off level for 2cell. I run mine on 6.6v and have never even hit the cut-off in a year with 3 rides.
Thanks. |
hey guys i have been doing alot of testing in both blinky and non blinky mode in off road and i believe i have found a very good point to start in both i will post settings when i get to the track tommorw to pull setting out of my speedos

Also what can timing is everyone running? Specifically the 8.5. I left it at stock (30* i think).
|
So-Cal- With an 8.5 I normally leave timing at 30*. I normally run 86-21 or 22 w/8.5 in my Sx10 ST.
Also there is a guide to explain Pro Gauge settings on the forum on the Viper website. Drummerboy- look for me at the new track on long island. I hope to be there a bit. I will help you out. Smyka- we have to get you away from those hacks in the main!! Also want to throw a quick congrats to Billy Fischer, I hear he won everything 4wd at the Arizona State Race!! |

I believe I was running it on profile one. Would that cause any heat problems? I pulled the rear plastic off and looked for any burns and didn't see any. I bench tested and it ran smooth throughout the power band so I hope nothing is hurt. I will find out on Friday though  |
