BTW - got some cool results via text little while ago, need to verify some stuff before we go into more detail.

Don't leave us hanging!!

What ever it is I'm sure it will continue to set Viper apart from all your competitors. Best stuff in the hobby!

Waiting for the pics -- but the VTX8 and VSE motor were rocking the NE on its debut weekend

Thinking about trying a setting with 2 , 1 or no punch for the main event. Just frustrating because traction builds up over 3 three qualifiers then goes at the end..its frustrating because both times I tq'd I did so pretty convincing lol

I would just settle for getting some communication back from my RMA i sent in, emails sent, and PM.

Does anyone know the max speed the viper copperhead vx4.39 combo can achieve? So far I have managed to get a max speed of 54 mph on a 9.6v nimhi battery with the battery remaining cool to the touch?

I installed the vtx10r in my ultima scr and call me crazy but my truck got quieter. i made no other changes except esc. It was also much smoother and seemed to have more power then my mmp. bye bye mmp hello vtx10r

Input and help needed

I seem to be having a very similar issue to "drunkenmugsy" on the Viper fourm for the copperhead(VX4R5.1) and see this thread is getting more traffic so I'm postin ghtis here as well. I'm running this set up in a fairly new SC10 FT 4x4. Was at WCRC yesterday for the first time out with this truck/esc/motor, 2s 65c 5100mah, and MT4 radio, running 13/62(lowest recommended setup per instructions) About 6 laps in it just stops, I go get it and see solid N, and F&R flashing= thermaled out...

So I look everything over gear mesh is good, and think maybe I have the belt to tight, loosen it up and give it another go after the motor cooled down(ESC never seemed hot at all) now the belt is obviously to loose as it's skipping teeth under acceleration. Stop tighten belt back to original setting, and hit the track to have the truck just go dead two laps in, no lights on esc nothing. Check temps nothing to bad, turn it back on, now it's starting to act like it was "browning out" on face of jump which caused it to case the face of the double a few times then it stops again, went and got it and no lights nothing just off. Checked the ESC, not hot at all and the motor wasn't so hot I couldn't touch it, I could keep a finger on it for a good 5+ seconds and no burning... At this point I was over it and left glad I was able to get some time in with my SC8e while i was there.

At a loss here, new to Viper products and so far NOT so good, any advice Viper tech?

FYI, progauge setting Race#5 only change to that setting was 2step reverse and I just called and left a message as well.

If you have a progauge, can you tell us what punch, timing, and start power settings you are using?

Andybellus 05-08-2012 01:35 PM

I'm using profile#5 with the only changes being 2-stage reverse and Lipo cut off @ 3.1v

Punch=7, Timing=7, Start Power=5

nikos2002 05-08-2012 02:01 PM

Andy, what kind of batteries were you running? Curious if the amp draw pulled the voltage below the cut off?

My settings are just slight lower than yours- but the 'brown out' comments got me thinking.

Andybellus 05-08-2012 02:12 PM

Two different packs while this was going on... Started with Protek 70c 5300mah and switched to Turnigy 65C 5100mah both saddle packs. Protek less than 20 cycles and Turnigy was new.

EDIT: Nikos, if I'm calculating everything right with the C rating on the battery's I'm running, I should be good on amp draw and the battery's and ESC weren't even warm, however the motor was and I was within the recommended gearing spec from Viper and TA.

I have run the R.51 allot in my SCTE (which is a little heavier) but I think has a little less drag that the SC10 4wd, but my roll-out is a 1.09 (using a 3.89 Trans Ratio with 40/13).

Your gearing has your at a 1.06 (2.57 trans ratio and 62/13), so if anything it is a tad under-geared.

What I am thinking to to have you try is to turn down that timing to 2, and maybe the punch to 2 or 3, and start power up to 6.

On my truck on a real big track I was running the following and have had zero cogging / stalling with this setup.

Punch 3
Timing 1
Start Power 6

Hey Andybellus,

Can you try the setting recommended by FLXH1550 and if your still having trouble you can call 1-866-206-8558. I am local as well so if you just let me know when you will be at the track i can bring an extra system to see whats going on. Please let me know and we will get this sorted for you.
