Anyone wanting to run boosted 17.5.... run this. It is proven OVER and OVER to be fast :)

I am just now getting back into the hobby. I just purchased a dex 410r and I am considering getting a vtx 10 with an 8.5. Will this be suitable for 4wd, or would I be better off getting a vtx10r for a little more durability.
Thanks,
Beau

I believe it means Power Modulation. Basically throttle frequency. It affects how smooth
The throttle steps are.

Thanks and this setting will be in the "pro-gauge" ?

Yes, it's under the 'throttle' menu, labeled PMW Frequency, I believe. Not 100% on it but I also believe PMW stands for pulse width modulation. I just started playing around with this setting last weekend and it makes a huge difference in stock non-boosted. Not only did it make the throttle even smoother than it was already - it seemed to give the car a little more top end. It's nice with mod motors as well, making it easier to find traction.

Quick question - What kind of esc temps are reasonable? I threw a 8.5 viper motor in my b4.1, geared 22/78 (extremely tight indoor track), 20* mechanical timing, mod offroad no boost profile, PMW frequency 9600. Can't remember what the brake frequency was.

The gearing seemed pretty close, it'd come off around 135 after 5 minutes and 150 after a full 5000mah pack. The esc temp was higher than I'd ever seen though (likely from messing with the PMW frequency!), but it topped out at 140. Is that within limits? Am I under/over-geared?

Also big thanks to Raegan for his help earlier this week :)

those temps are just fine.

throttle PWM freq 3500, 30 degrees can timing on motor, acc boost 15 degrees, start rpm 3500- finish 12000, top speed 10 degrees/slew, top speed timing 30 degrees. try this and check temps after 3 min and if good run 6 min and repeat.
gearing was 33/70 for outdoor track.

what car? losi 22 ?

nikos2002 07-27-2011 01:49 PM

Andrew's gearing at Hot Rod - TQ SX10 2w and SC (2.6 trans ratio):

SC gearing - 26/80
2wd gearing - 33/72

This is what I was told he ran.

The VTX10R has been good with my DEX410 so far, and am wondering if i should get one for my Losi 22 as well, though since am never gonna run anything more aggressive than a 6.5t in my Losi, am thinking on the VTX10(not the R) mostly because it's a few mm lower than the VTX10R which means i should go along nicely on the ESC spot on a mid motor 22.

So would the VTX10 work on the 22 as long as i am not gonna go below 6.5t?(Probably gonna run 8.5/7.5t).

The 10 will work fine.
