Rick- congrats, nice running!!! Can't believe it was that hot and the motor ran that cool!!!
Eric- if your lap times were good at 140, I wouldnt push it. Maybe just a little more but I try and stay below 150 if it has the speed on the track.
Brian- timing is a bit of a variable, depends on if your running timing on the esc. If not you can put a little in it via the motor.

Good luck to the guys at Hot Rod this weekend. The racing gods owe us one after Andrew's run at the Cactus!!

Got my 13.5 all set up in my 4.1 and it seems like it will be a runner! It did take a while to get some power out of it though, seems these motors like alot of timing on the MMP at least.

They also need to be geared up....

Good to know. Surprisingly, gearing down a bit and adding timing made it run really cool. Only ~115 after the main. It's so low that I'm no longer concerned about it for club racing, but I'll aim to stay below 150 for no-timing Stock races...

Thanks! :-)

Is the modified profiles on the esc as smooth as the LRP? Planning on a 8.5 and I don't find the Tekin's I have that smooth running modifieds. Thanks.

Please tell me how to configure reverse at VTX10R. The car goes in reverse, but after pressing the gas trigger, it is not slowing, but continues to roll back, what's the problem?

i got my 10r installed and ran it wed. night with a tekin sc5.5 motor. esc felt like it was really smooth and i had a great time. today i got my viper 4.5xl ordered for a big race next weekend. running it my losi scteon a very big outdoor loamy track. any recomandations on where i should start gearing? i know it will vary and i have several pinion choices, but just want to be in the ball park when i start. thanks

Questions on Viper systems

I'm getting back into the hobby later this summer as our indoor winter program begins. We race on off road carpet set-up in the winter and loomey/hard rough large dirt track in the summer months. I will be running the 17.5 combo in 2wd sc(probly a sc10) Was looking for a explanation on the difference between the VTX10 and VTX10R esc and which 17.5 combo would be more versatile and suit my conditions of racing. Thanks in advance:tire:

Vtx10 runs 540 motors down to 6.5 turns.
Vtx10r runs 550 and 540 motors no limit.
The Vtx10 would be enough for stock.

Got to finally race the 13.5 in buggy yesterday at a club race and it ran really well, ended up taking the win. The motor temped cool all day so I think I will take Dlewis advice and add some gear next time even though it was a handfull the way it was!

I have only stated it about... oh.... 40 times in this thread :)

These motors do not gear like anything else out there... they need to be geared up as they have SOOOO much bottom.

This was a 20 minute main but at the 6 min mark we had a small dirt devil go throw and lifted 4 easyup's into the sky and we had to stop the race:eek:. Sucked because i checked out and was gone. Then we restarted the race and they made it 15 min. I took 2nd but my batt died on the last lap.
Viper 2050kv test motor, 20c truerc battery and Panther tires in my caster 1.5r buggy. It was 90 degress outside and after 15 minutes of non stop racing motor was about 150ish.:D not bad at all.

7-10-11 As you can see by the results i pulled off the track at the 12 min mark and was in 1st place. There was only 2 e-truggy's so we had to run with the nitro.;)
caster pro e-truggy, 2250kv viper truggy test motor, 20c truerc batttery and panther tires.

Success at the Hot Rod Shootout!!!

Billy Fischer wins Pro 4 SC with his Viper powered Durango

Andrew Smolnik wins 17.5 SC with his Viper powered TQ SX10 SC

pretty sure I saw some other names in some A's that run Viper stuff, but I want to wait until its verified to be sure.

Also want to send a great shout out to Royce Berrio for putting it in 3 A Mains (4wd Mod, 2wd Mod and SC Mod) at the 1st Critters Trophy race in NJ. There were some big NE factory hotshots at the race.

nikos2002 07-10-2011 07:32 PM

jkirkwood - yes you will like the smoothness of the VTX series, its smooth, but you still feel you have control of the power. Some other brands I have used seem to sacrifice power for a smooth feel.

Atmoteam - strange. Almost sounds like it can't find the neutral. Make sure the throttle trim wasn't changed or go through the set up process again and try it. Just a thought.

nitroal - check the Viper Facebook page - Raegan posted some set up info from testing the XL550 motors in his Losi and I think there were gearing notes as well.
