I did check the solder joints and the sensor plug. I will have to test the 10.5 when I get a chance just to see if it was the motor. I have the temp cutoff at 160 motor and 220 esc., its the first and lowest temp setting on both. Outside feel of the can was, it was warm, but not hot. But, like I said will have to check the 10.5 to see if it was the ESC or the motor. I'm thinking its the motor at this point. Thanks for the help though :)

Something I was also thinking about was the temps the ESC and motor are reaching when they are being soldered... I have a 150/230 watt soldering gun I use for this, however it seems like I really have to leave it on there for a bit longer then I like to get a good joint. Afterward the esc and motor are quite warm/ hot. Not sure if some damage to plastics, or circuitry is being done by this.

Soldering the connections shouldn't damage the ESC unless you leave the iron on the tabs for more than 2 minutes. As for the temp cut-off, try disabling the motor temp cut-off (WARNING: Check temp every 2 minutes to prevent overheating) and set cut-off ESC temp to 220*. If the esc profile and gearing is set properly, there is no need for such a low cut-off level.

Remember, internal temps are much higher than the outside surface temperatures. Hope this helps

yes, I have never run the motor temp below 220. Remember the reading is taken through the system internally on the motor. If the outside of the can is reading 150 when we all measure it with our temp gauges, the internal temp is much higher, maybe up to 75º higher. The cutoff you were experiencing was probably because the system would shut down until the temps were below the 160º the speedo was set at. Many do disable the measurement, but as Eric said, be careful to monitor your temperatures at first to make sure you have a good idea where they are.

A question I have about the copperhead system, is how competitive is it going to be? I have one on order and my scte with no power (ditched the castle and novak), and have been wondering whether I should wait for the 1/8 scale to come out whenever and just use a vtx10r and 550 motor or continue the wait for the copperhead. Everybody around here runs castle or the tekin rx8, but I am not a castle fan and run viper everything.

Is this Copperhead system ever going to be out? I am about done waiting for it.

nikos2002 01-24-2012 09:48 AM

The wait for Copperhead is coming to the end. This is going to be a great system at a phenomenal price point. We did want to make sure it was ready and able to provide everyone the performance and response they desire. You guys are going to like this one!!

Would you rather have a system that was rushed to make some people happy that is is released. than 1 month or whatever later, come back on here  ing about how something went wrong

Or

Would you rather the company take a little time to test it and make sure it's 100% ready?

You are right that proper testing and finalizing is important. The problem is the copperhead systems were promised to be available in a few weeks since October. I know marketing has to raise awareness and expectation, but if the system is not available before the season starts then those who wanted to buy will get impatient.

I have been running the R45 in my scte and it does very well. It hangs with everything out currently and hasn't giving me any problems. I've said it before, it really is a great system. I've tried to abuse it...still runs every time :)

That is a very good point

In life I have learned to stop getting my hopes up on things that aren't out yet.
I just hang back and wait for it to be released and deal with it till than.

That's just me though.
I am getting ready to order my 3rd Viper system. It's not a copperhead. I do think think I will buy a copperhead. My Novak system for my 4x4 ran flawless and had more power than I knew what to do with.

Ruger357 01-25-2012 11:47 AM

I am hoping that the Copperhead system is released before i get too antsy. I have an SCTE that is being delivered on 1/31 and i dont know how long i can hold out....

Rawwolf 01-25-2012 11:37 PM

Dont mean to beat a dead horse, but is there a release date set for the copperhead? I am waiting on the tax man to give me my money then I can deckout my new(to me) sc10 4x4. Only need a motor and esc. Right now I am leaning toward the tekin rx8/pro4 4k. But this system looks great. Is this system gonna have trouble with a savox servo like the CC stuff?
