Rheal,
I would start with a 16t and check temps and adjust from there. I run a 15t on an indoor track with a couple 180s and have no temp issues. Ok thanks I will start with a 15 tooth just to see temps and get used to the system. Running one tooth lower should not hurt system / cause much extra heat right? By 180's do you mean temp or turns or? Thanks, Rheal |

Hi guys,
When using the new pro capacitor modules, do these go in addition to the capacitors already soldered to the esc, or do they replace them? (I have the vtx10r-BE) |

Always check temps a few minutes into a run to ensure all is good. Also, remember to practice no longer than your main event. If you run a 7 minute main, then practice for 7 minutes at a time. Ensure you never run a battery pack all the way down to low voltage cutoff as that is not good for your battery and the additional run time may allow your motor and esc to continue to generate too much heat, causing a premature end of life of your electronics... Have fun! |

I personally found that I like the combo of my VTX8 and Hobbwing 4 pole 550ish motor (its more like a 545) a lot. Or, you can always do a Tekin Pro4 HD 4300kv motor. Very beastly. If you need to be ROAR legal, you will want a 540 4 pole motor if you choose to go 4 pole route. Tekins 4600kv 4 pole works well on the truck. If you dont need sensored operation and want to save a buck, viper copperhead combos are available. Looks to be great combos for the money. |
Cain is becoming a Viper expert!!!!
VTX8 is best esc option - with our new 4 pole motors (VF4) on the way it will be an awesome mix. We have used 2 pole motors in the past, but I think that the Teckno might be a little too heavy for the 2 pole motors on some larger tracks. Copperhead is great alternative as mentioned - 4500kv combo seems to be the most popular race version. |
I love my viper vtx8 but today was a bad day for them at our track. The fastest guy at our track had his go out on him during the first heat. You could get it to run by spinning the spur gear with your finger and holding the trigger but would stop as soon as you let off. The same thing happen to me in the 3rd heat but I got mine to work again during the break before the main. Half way through the main the same thing happen. We check the sensor wire on both esc's in a another setup and everything was good there. What makes it worse is after his first esc went out he put a brand new vtx8 in and it started smoking and melted the sensor wire into the esc on the very first lap.
Several people at our track have had good luck with them up until now. One of the reason so many people started running them was of because of the problems they were having with first gen tekin's. I'm sure Viper will make things right and I will say even though his 2nd one blew up I think the silicone case help prevent a big fire any further damage to the car. I've seen a rx8 burn whole car up before a turn marshal could put it out. |

what Nick said The symptoms described above are normally from an internal short in the motor. :D |

We thought it might be the motor because he had the same problem a few weeks ago. It turns out it was the motor then. New Reedy 2100 went out and replaced with a Orion. He did the same thing yesterday but this time the motor was fine. So he replaced it and the 2nd esc went up in smoke.
I've been having problems before yesterday not being able to tune my esc with the proguage. Progauge will come on but keeps saying connection fail. Tried tuning with two other ez links couldn't get it to link either. Says waiting on esc with the ez link. I think I may of had some type of wiring problem. Like I said i love my viper vtx8 and will continue to run it but sucks we had bad luck this past weekend. |

Thanks Neil. I wish i could used the power supply I bought from you yesterday but came in after I left. My heavy old school mobile authority one is getting retired.
I checked everything as you said and tried it with two different ez link boxes versions and the same thing happens. The reason I think its the esc is because the proguage and the ez link's work fine on another vtx8. I was able to get another drivers ez link to work a few weeks again when i was having problems but he wasn't there yesterday. Part of the problem then also was that I didn't have it programmed to neutral and the transmitter settings at 100%. I made sure it was right this time though. I'm going to send it back to viper monday. I hoping whatever is wrong is not too hard to fix. |
