I still don't get why people are all worked up over Sensored only but I guess to each their own.
Because if a sensor wire becomes disconnected during a race It shuts down instantly, you only have steering. After it happened to me, I put a little dab of Shoe Goo on it and there hasnt been any problems since. Now, if something happens to the sensor wire itself i'll be screwed again, I keep a few on hand just in case. |
I put another 2 packs though it and the problem seems to have worked itself out. Tomorrow I'll run through another 4 to 6 packs and know for sure.

Just a quick update on my VTX10 8.5 in my SC10. Think I found the silver bullet but I shot twice and don't know which bullet hit the mark. I found that the end bell was slightly loose causing variations in timing. I took the cap off and cleaned it up and found that the bearing had a blue tinge to it (heat). Cleaned it all up and re-lubed the bearing. Set the motor to 20° and proceeded to run 137° after a 7 minute main at 18/87. This same gearing would have had the motor at 180°+ prior to the "fix". Was it the bearing or the variable timing?? Who knows. Motor ran strong in the main too. Just about picked up the front end on the straight.

Hi Guys,
What Viper Copperhead Combo would you recommend for this track in a SCT. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=10E4AOqrQMs CNC Gears: F & R: 43/13 C: 46T Thanks |
Does anyone know if the VTX10 would be alright in a 4wd 1/10 buggy? Dex410v3 to be specific. I'd be running a 6.5t motor so it would be at its limit.

The R will handle the heat and amp draw much better than the reg. I would take the extra time, save some money and grab an 'R'. Since you are getting a new one, get the Black Edition R as the brakes are a bit nicer. |

I'd go with the Copperhead-R/VX4R.45 (4500) combo given all the twisties. If it were more open with several long straights then maybe the 5150 motor, but even then the 4500 would be plenty. Don't forget the Progauge or EZ Link for programming.
It is a GREAT buy for your money, for sure! But it is not reliable or fast enough for what you may be expecting. Your lap times MAY improve, but it will most likely be due to the fact that you will not have the torque to really get you in trouble. It is also very unreliable. I have had some issues with the ESC cutting out at the most inopportune times (ie 7-8 minutes into the Main). The ESC would cut out for approximately 30-40 sec. Nikkos has been great and tried to fix this problem that a lot of us are having with this system, but the problems persist. I've tried going down a tooth on my pinion, lowering forward power, etc. but it hasn't helped. And as I've already stated, there are a few others experiencing this issue so I do not think it is my driving style (which is actually quite conservative). I have taken this system out of my SCTE 2.0 and installed it in my son's SCTE 1.0. Since he runs in the novice class his Mains last only 5 min, plus the occasional 30-40 sec stall doesn't really affect his lap times or his running order that much lol. Again, this is a great buy for how little you pay for it. But If you decide to buy this combo, I would relegate it only for bashing or practice. |
Did some initial tuning passes with my Viper VTX8 in my SCT410. Settings are moderate, with the whole punch setting at 50% combined with a Hobbywing 4 Pole 4000Kv motor.
Very impressed so far. It was very smooth on teh bottom end but still punchy. Rev'd good and ran cool. One thing that was different that is hard to describe is that when throttling the vehicle at a speed lower than it was going at, it felt as if it was doing more of a coast effect than I saw with my Speed Passion. Its hard to explain, it just felt like in throttle ranges where it didn't need it, it would coast more. I felt like I didn't need to be on power as much as I did with my speed passions. Will do some shake down passes with the Eb48 next to see how it works out on 4S. No track stuff here, just road driving over what they ripped up recently to put new stuff down lol. |
I just ordered a replacement high torque rotor form my 8.5, but am new to taking these apart; is there a set of instructions on what to do and expect once I open it up? I looked around the Viper web site but didn't see anything.
Thanks! |
My Viper 4 pole SCT motor and VTX8 esc ran great Sunday and got me a TQ and win in my Caster Racing Rapture SCT...
