twisted - there are lots of different ways the voltage could spike.... its not just jumps.

manatrams - you're going to like it :nod:

bds81175 & mulepic - agreed, but somehow it became standard. there are always tricks up the sleeve... :sneaky:

4500kv. 13/52, but I could go 14/52. The 13/52 is fast enough for me so I just leave it.

Awesome, thank you.
Ordering that with the king headz motor mount tonight :D

Finally managed to give my VTX8 a good run yesterday. Temps were good around 110/115F and motor around 140F. Instead of going up gears im considering changing some settings on the ESC 1st. What would be some good setups to try? (Motor is 1/8 buggy 2100kv on 4s)

if looking for a little more top end and smoothness try raising the PWM but stock profile feels great. all I did was lower brake pwm 1 notch and raise throttle pwm 1 notch as well.

good luck and enjoy the speed, quality, and reliability that viper has to offer....

What exactly are you looking for? More top? more bottom? more overall?

Also jot down what your current settings are, current car, and current gearing. Then we can help you fine tune :)

I'm running a 2100kv in my buggy and I've had to tune down my VTX8 to make it controllable. I'll check out some of the settings I'm using when I get home tonight and post them up.

I'm running 2050kv motor right now. I run profile 1 with 16000mhz pwm and 55% punch in my MBX6ECO geared 16/46. That setup is more than enough power. I'm actually going to back it down to a 1900kv once our new motors come out.

DavidAlford 06-11-2013 01:31 PM

That sounds close to where I'm at. I think I'm at 60% punch.

Bob Barry 06-11-2013 01:44 PM

Cool. I'm going to drop down one tooth to a 15 this weekend and see if I can get some more usable power. My track is a little on the smaller side so I really can't open it up at all.

I have been running the pwm fairly low around 8K.. and use 7 degrees of boost from 16-26,000 rpm.
But that is with a 2150 6 pole. and I know those motors like timing.
I normally like running low punch, but could not get it to respond fast enough with punch below 80.

How do you mount the vtx8? Is it double stick or is there a way to bolt it to the esc tray? Any pics of the bottom?

nikos2002 06-11-2013 03:31 PM

you can mount it with double sided tape - there is a card in the box with drill holes to match some cars with the hole pattern.

I know some drivers use shoe-goo -- others zip ties. This thing is ready to give you power - you have to nail it down somehow!!! ;)

I use mega black from autozone, it will absorb shock and is temp proof and scrapes off with your fingernail but holds great. Don't use the bottom holes, there's really not enough material there and will strip easily.

I use the 3m clear tape. It hold really well and provided shock absorption. But, I have fund that you MUST clean both surfaces with rubbing alcohol and do not touch the stick part with your fingers. Let it setup over night and it hold really well. With the vtx8, I would use 2 strips to cover most of the bottom. If you dont clean the surfaces like I said, it wont last long.

Does anyone have a list of motor sizes for the 4WD SC Motors and the 1/8 Motors???
