you can switch between the 3port p/s and the 5port. i have a set of both because i was racing in a roar event so i switched to a 3 port p/s set with no problems. you just have to tweek the needles but if you have money to buy this engine then that should go without saying

Do you have to change the conrod and crank to switch from a 5 port to a 3 port, or is it just a piston and sleeve change?

So i have a TZ 3p and it has been running great, however the track that i run on is small so i have never really streched it legs, so my friend who has a radar gun and i tested it in my mtx3 the other day, When i thought the motor was about to top out RPM it just kept going, needless to say even with my gearing for a very small track the car still hit 56mph, i just couldnt belea ve how much more top end there was that i have never used.
ATX4 was this a box stock engine you have ?

its just a piston and sleeve change. i'm thinking about getting a second conrod though because then i dont have to keep popping out the piston pin retainer...when those things fly across the room, forget about it!

Looks like you're right. I checked on the parts listing, and the part number for the crank between the 3 port and 5 port is different.

3 Port:

Crank = Stock number OSMG4487

5 Port:

Crank = Stock number OSMG4488

Default 12tz 3 ports problem

I ran my car in a parkin lot the other day. I didnt noticed that after a while the teeth of my 2nd gear was completely damaged. and for about an hour Im doing a full throtle not knowing that my 2nd gear was broken. then I noticed my engine stop running, I tried starting the engine but it does not start. I checked the flywheel with my finger and it is rotating now without any resistance. is the conrod broken? my 12tz 3 ports is only 2 months old and I have used only for about 8 to 9 times.

the 5 port is faster. and if it does not matter what you get, you might as well get the 5 because its the same price as the 3.
