Ran the P5 in Truggy and Buggy this weekend.

9901/021 in truck
9886/021 in buggy

I was very surprised with this engine on a large out door track with big jumps. This engine held its own against some top engines. I did run on the lean side. Getting 9 mins in truck and 10 in buggy at 5000 feet up. I am very happy with these engines.

I decided to open it up and check out the internals and there is no build-up on the sleeve or piston other than a little on top of piston. The crank is pretty clean also but the bearings have a little carbon on the races. Anyway my Nitrotec was at 2 gallons when it dropped pinch and I think I have been real easy on the btta since our track (Phil Hurd)has alot of tight turns and controlled throttle jumps also only one straight thats not that long. Like I said I ALWAYS preheat and never run it real rich. Used 2% Bryons lube booster for first gallon of VP 30/9 so I hope thats the reason it still has pinch when cold. My needles are flush hsn/ 1/4 turn below flush lsn with 7mm insert does that sound about right? Thanks Again!

sounds pretty close on the needles

the buildup is totally unnoticeable , it will feeel kinda plasticlike actually

good job on the lube booster for break in!! castor oil is a must for break ins

97t is way too hot for a clocked P5. Use what Neal suggests. Werks #6 or nova 6. Don't skimp on glow plugs.

I completely agree Maximo. the 99t, and Nova c6tgc are my favorite plugs, I have not tried the werks..

Those 99t's are getting scarce....I see guys all the time running too hot a plug and burning them up and I tell them get a cooler plg, they rarely listen because so many think hotter is better. They can keep on flaming out for all i care....

My unrstanding is that its biggest improvement will be fuel economy. But with a 5.4 venturi I would think the tuning window will be pretty small. Maybe Monty can chime in or some one that has used it. I would think that the neddles would have to be a very fine thread

it also a 7mm carb instead of a standard 9mm carb... so I'm guessing the 7mm port goes all the way through instead of putting 7mm Venturi that eventually has a 9mm opening in the bottom... which will slow air pressure somewhat.... i'll stop there.. LOL

I always thought the more air and fuel you can get in, the more power you can get out. So I'm not understanding the reduction in throat size. But that's why I'm not and engine designer either. LOL.

a properly jetted engine will maximize power and fuel consumption

its not always about " the most power" Chris

i guess but when you consider a 9mm carb with a 7mm reducer in it.. it makes you wonder she even make it 9mm when you sell it with a 6.5 install...
