You make a good point about variables. When I was reading your post I realized I still use the 97t in my plus-4 engine. It's kind of a milder engine and is not as tough on plugs like my insane 7 port engines. They spin faster and are a little more picky to tune and really showed me just how much better the Nova plugs were, the filament is just better material....It can withstand the abuse....but the 97t is ok for a p5 and plus-4 in my opinion....
I'm sorry I sounded so negative about the OD plugs, it's just irritating when the plugs make you blame the engine. Just buy one Nova c6 run it until it dies, then do the same for a 97t. You will be shocked...Or run each plug one run and inspect the filament....that will tell you everything... |
Ive been running the Odonnell 97T for years now in Toro Nero's and P5XL and i usually get about 4/5/6 litres out of a plug, so say up to 1.5 us gal
I cant fault them, They do look a bit suss after a while but they keep running fine' Using RB Fuel btw Dave |
it keeps going back and forth on C6TGC and the O-Donnell 97T plug. Can I conclude that it wont hurt the engine (if I run the engine and tune it "normally") if I run the 97T plug. If so, I guess I will run them and see what success'/failures I encounter...

I ran OD turbos are few years ago in my Nova engines. Like others report, I found the OD plugs did not last as long. |
my friend, (Novarossi sponsored driver) told me that they burn a tad hotter than the Nova C6TGC plug. He adds that this is why the plug life is somewhat shorter for the 97T plug. But he also said it is easier to tune with the plug....:tire:

You'll also get a better acceleration with the hotter plug. On high speed tracks and/or warm conditions the colder Nova plugs are better. I personal like a little hotter plugs due to less risk of flame-out e.g. after pit stops. |
Oh no

First off, I think it is way too cool that you are a woman knowledgeable and who is into RC and BONUS, lives in TX at that! But I hear ya. I just have about a dozen of the 97T plugs and really would rather invest some money on my newest RC (B44.1 Buggy). But, I have a Bonito I am breaking in and the plug is holding up pretty well. I have a PLUS 21-4BTT which like you said the 97T plug might work better in. Who knows. But yeah...who knows for sure? LOL
i would use the Nova plug in the Bonito and the 97t in the btt..... |

I have been noticing after just a couple tanks my OD97t plugs get real black at connection point and it makes me worry about it dropping! I know the area where it is soldered to plug gets black but after 2 or 3 tanks is this normal and rest of plug is shiny and damp. Maybe I am to lean on top and rich on bottom but motor(R21) performs well at about 220f? Anyway I wonder if I should try 77t or cough up the cash for Nova plugs? The temps where have dropped about 20 degrees from 90f to 70f at the last race we had. Any ideas or advice?THANKS!

well i haven't been racing a hell of a lot, had a lot going on lately but a week ago i went out to Lake Havasu City, AZ and ran at the Battle at the Beach Race. Both my Buggy and Truggy ran Great. Buggy had the BTT and didnt have a lick of problems, tuned it when i got there and didnt have to touch it all weekend long. Truggy had the bonito, it didnt have much fuel thru it, prob about 1/2-3/4 gallon when i got there. ran about 2 tanks on practice day and it started to break in a tiny bit thru out the qualifiers. I ended up Qual 2nd and we ran Triple A Mains. The morning of the mains i retuned the Bonito and it woke up, really smooth but plenty of power and top end was amazing down the sweeper. Really happy with this engine. Ended up winning both buggy and truggy by A2 so i didnt have to run A3 in either class. Nitro Challenge warm up race is next for me.

Losi Racer,
I run the same two engines Bonito w/ NR 9853/41021 for Truggy & BTT w/ NR 9901/41021 for Buggy. I am breaking in the Bonito still and am going to start breaking in the BTT this weekend. Any suggestions? What are you running/getting on each engine? I am in El Paso, so I was thinking the weather conditions are similar to AZ. 1) pipe/header 2) venturi size 3) fuel 4) glow plug 5) clutch setup 6) temps 7) run times Thanks in advance. Congrats on your Victories too. |
