NOVAROSSI Engine thread....
I looked for this thread but I could not find one....so lets get it going on all Nova Offroad engines...
|
i will start with the engine i am just breaking in..a new p5XLT..so far it is really responsive and still has the strong bottom they are known for..right now i am using a 9901 with short header...i forgot how good this engine was.
|
Hey R1harper what's your most favorite Nova engine?
|
There is a thread you can ask your questions on here already . Everyone else does.
http://www.rctech.net/forum/nitro-of...s-4-a-156.html |
Fav nova engine of all time is probably the p5 or one I have worked over .
2nd fav is plus 4 C Truggy - plus 21-7bt or plus 21-8t :-) Btw , killer thread harper !! :-) All engines with ceramic bearings naturally :-) |
i havnt ever ran a bad nova
|
i have..
1- plus 21-5. 1- plus 21-5k 2 -rex p5 2 -nova p5x. 1-top 5 port. 1-top 421b. 1 -367. 1- .12 top S5. 1-rb .28 728 my favorite is the 421 next are the p5's, the 367 is no slouch either. would love to have the fms 7 port. |
I have
1 P5xs 1 21-5k 2 21-7 FMS 1 NR.12S3 I was going to buy a Plus-4C but I was so impressed with the FMS I bought another one. The P5xs seemed to lack bottom-end, but I only ran it with the 9886/41021 combo. When I get it repinched I'll run the 9853. The FMS for me is the hands down bomb! |
I have ran quite a few Novas, I like the 21-4 hands down.....last season I Used a Ofna 053 pipeset and it was great, I am going to try a 9901/41021 this season for buggy.......nice thread Harper:tire:
|
i ran a Novarossi N21BF Limited Edition .21 Off Road 3 Port Buggy Engine (Standard Plug) that monty from houston engines modded for me. it had all the power i needed to do whatever i wanted. i even ran down my buddies ninja jx21 down the straight with it:lol: but most importantly the engine never flamed out on me the whole season!!!
by far the best bang for the dollar engine ever made! can't wait to get the new one:nod: |
buggy -plus 4
truggy- FMS the P5 i just got is coming along real nice, and the way it is feeling i may try it in truggy to see how it does. really you cant count out the little BF 21 limited..it is a really nice package for the price |
the first thing i really noticed about the New P5 is it used the old carb. It took me a little bit to ge used to the needles again. where the plus 4 is flush on the LSN the P5 is up in there LOL. i may just put a new one on there and see what happens.:sneaky:
|
oh and thanks about the thread...the On-road guys had one...so now we do:)
|
anyone know if there will be a SS 086? i got the 9901 and 053 now waiting for the 086...
|
Plug/Pipe 21-5K
Can anybody tell me the best plug to run in a plus 21-5K running 30% byrons and a pipe header combo for a short track. I have a mugen 1005 pipe combo and wanted to know should I stick with it or is there some thing better.
Thanks for any help |
This time next week I will have my first Novarossi engine +4C, I have used OS and GRP's. From what I heard Nova's are good engines hope I wont be disappointed, time to be adopted by the Novarossi Family LOL.
|
Novarossi's were my first engines, I went with a r2r 21-4 from Monty, it came, I clutched it and went racing....totally painless engine, a complete breeze to tune(Odonnell 97T plug is what I prefer and have had great luck with) I have never had one bad day at the track due to engine probs, however I was lean bogging a tad on my last race due to the fact the mill was at 6 gall. and had a leaky front bearing......I got 6 gall. and only needed to replace a rod and went ahead and had Monty do cermaics f/r as well, rest of engine was perfect, the pinch is right where it should be, I wasnt afraid to let it see 260 and thats normally where it was at.....I ran a Ofna 053 pipe with the stock ] header and Byrons Gen2 fuel.........be anal about filter maintenance and these engines will give you countless days of great consistency and good results, if not it may not last a day, filter maintenance is a MUST........Im racing my 1/10 electric cars now as its winter here, but im ready for spring and some nitro.......Novarossi USA baby  :tire:
|
i to just went to a p5xlt,came from the dark side (RBC6)i hope its just as good or better, going with a 086 pipe, heard good things about this combo.i'll keep you all posted once i get it hooked up.
|
these engines have the best seals period.......you dont need to gunk on aftermarket engine sealant ANYWHERE, not necessary with Novas........just MAKE SURE your air filter setup is good and tight, and keep your pre filters changed all day long and use a good grade filter oil like Lucky7.

Question for you guys.
My first Novarossi is a "Speed" 528X with a blue head. I think it's awesome! Any input on this? I got it used from a truggy I bought and it's like new with stupid pinch. I looked on line to see what it's worth, but couldn't find it. Must be an old one?

use a heat gun to heat to 200 before you start at each step You will have to play with the needles a little bit and cover the head of your engine with a pit rag (or similar) do 3 heat cycles within the first tank at 190-210 degrees (3-5 min. intervals), at idle on stand? yes. then run it around on the ground gently only slightly rich keeping the temp between 210-230 (monitoring temps frequently ) careful not to let the engine get into its powerband , do this for about 1 full tank at a time but do not let it run out of fuel .do this for 3 tanks (cooling in between tanks), quarter throttle or so with short blips of more (full) throttle .. not fast? slow pulls on the throttle in 30-40ft bursts . then richen the needles a bit and run it about 190-210 on the track for 3 straight tanks monitoring temps frequently(every 2 laps) for the first couple of minutes until the engine runs at a consistent temp and feel.(start to lean out slowly)when you get it tuned in to where its not totally screaming but you have enough power to make the jumps with a slight bog at full throttle and runs at about 210-230, let it cool (check the plug at this point), what am I looking for exactly on the plug ? make sure the plug still glows and looks new, if it looks all distorted pull it out as you dont want a plug filament to go through the engine go out and run the rest of the gallon til the engine richens up dramatically on its own and the temp drops instantly (i call it "dropping its nuts"). this process sometimes takes more than a full gallon .hope this helps ya , pretty detailed I have had great success with this method and longevity , monty www.houstonsengineservice.com |
I am think of comming over
I had been racing go tech for 08-09 season, and I am buying my first nova p5 for CRCRC for janurary, from mark at powerhouse , I went with a sport race mod. I hope it does good,,
|
I break em in pretty much like Houston with Great results. Long lasting engines that take abuse! My Vspec is almost done 9 gallons and is like new with pinch, con rod and bearings.....
|

|
for this season i have got a p5xlt it is about broke in at 3 quarts ..running super good and strong ...have not put it on the track but will soon ...also picked up +4c ..i just got about 500cc of fuel through it the other week at
Alan Burtons SPEED SHOP ...he runs about 500-1000cc through them in a heat cycle method to get everthing seated right ...i feel it is a great way to get the motors on there way ...some may disagree ...but i have always like the bench ..here are some pics of my 4c at the speed shop ..i got just over 500 cc through it ..everything went great heat cycling up to 215 the cooling down in 5 minute intervals ..then after the first few tanks idling at temp and then cooling down ..heres the pics ...check out his thread . .he has provided many racers some super good services and at a price thats right THE SPEED SHOP http://i79.photobucket.com/albums/j1...s/IMG00326.jpg http://i79.photobucket.com/albums/j1...s/IMG00328.jpg p5xlt in my losi 8 http://i79.photobucket.com/albums/j1...s/SDC10417.jpg http://i79.photobucket.com/albums/j1...s/SDC10416.jpg |
THANKS FOR ALL THE GREAT INFO GUYS! I HOPE TO BREAK IT IN THIS WEEKEND ALL LET YOU GUYS KNOW HOW IT TURNS OUT!
|
be patient and you will be rewarded...do not rush it.

hey guys! Quick questions here. What would be the best Nova engine for a truggy? (8ight-t 2.0).
The plus 4, Toro or FMS... hehe at this point im really confuse, ive been reading a lot on all 3 of them and they seems all good but one of these must be better for a truggy. So again which one would be the best all around engine (lots of pwr and good run time). |

That was a fast answer Ty Houston
So how much run time will I get with the FMS? Im not a pro driver so my driving is not exactly very smooth... I tend to be heavy on the throttle from time to time. Oh and would a 9853/41021 pipe be a good combo? |

Oh and would a 9853/41021 pipe be a good combo? i have seen 13 min. out of the fms in truggy with a light throttle finger and as little as 7 1/2 min with very heavy finger . runtimes can vary dramatically with your fingering of the throttle  |
Wasnt the SBK-01 a Nova based motor. I got one along time ago when I was Racing for Ron Paris and man it was the bestengine I had ever ran!!!
The owners of Action RC dug big pot wholes infront of a huge Double Double because I was quading it at the 2004 Nats. I was the only one doing it LOL so they came up with some lame excuse to put the pot holes in. LMAO |
