there are only 2 pipes i use on my novarossi engines..9886, or 053.
has any one tried a sirio 2013? im usually on large smooth flowing tracks and like to have my engines stretch there leggs:D

Trevor Williams 12-24-2009 07:57 AM

2013 will give your engine the lightswitch effect, I tried one and it made mucho power, but my lap times dropped as the power was just too much........thats a nasty pipe for sure.

houston 12-24-2009 01:54 PM

2013 works pretty good on most nova engines and makes alot o' power !!! and very very loud!!!

Trevor Williams 12-24-2009 02:21 PM

yeah, the pipe has a real raspy tone, its a cool sounding pipe for sure, you know a 2013 when you hear it........the pipe did make mad power, probably be great in a truggy. Hmmmm..........plus4C, Hitec servos, mp9, should be sweet setup :)

Well after talking to monty last season I bought a P5xl. Loved it I ran a JP4 pipe on it. This winter I have bought a FMS and a plus4. Was hoping monty would post pipe combos for these engines. Going to do it right this year engines and pipes.

What pipe and header combo for these engines.

P5xlt
FMS
Plus4

Also if you have any other suggestions for these engines Monty or anyone I appreciate it.

Thanks in advance!!!!

Trevor Williams 12-24-2009 07:34 PM

p5x : Dyn 086 w/stock header
Novarossi 9886 w/41021 header

21-7 FMS : Ofna 053 w/stock header
9853/41021 or 41005
Sirio 2013 w/stock header

21-plus 4 : Ofna 053 w/stock header
Ofna 086 w/stock header
Novarossi 9853/41005 or 41021
Novarossi 9901 w/41021
Sirio 2013 w/stock header

standard plugs - Odonnell 77, 99 or 100 (MCcoy has a few decent plugs as well but Im not familiar with their ranges)

turbo plugs - I recommend the Odonnell 97T's hands down to any other plug, that's JMO(these pipes/plugs are just what I have used/tried besides the 9901 which I am trying next, so these are just my personal preferences per Monty's recommendations, I have owned/tried all these engines besides the FMS, I had a HES tuned 21-7BT, fastest engine I Have ever seen)...........GL with your new mills!!! Keep up on your air filter system and use a good fuel with a good oil package like Byros Gen 2 30% and these engines will LAST ;)

r1harper 12-24-2009 08:12 PM

we averaged 9 minutes to a tank in truggy....yea the FMS is a monster for sure...and untamed lol

Zuma 12-24-2009 08:18 PM

Is the fuel brand really gonna makes a difference in a Nova engine? I use Sidewinder its about the same as Byron or im wrong?

r1harper 12-24-2009 08:25 PM

i am not stepping on Trevor here, but when we ran the FMS in truggy we preferred the Nova 086 with Nova long header...it seemed to run cooler, tune easier and be crisper, it was a modded engine though so that for sure can play a factor in there. in buggy i think you can run any pipe you want and it will still be too much, but if you have not tried it in a buggy it is fun LOL

r1harper 12-24-2009 08:27 PM

i may start the run in on my 3 port this weekend as well....fun fun

porkchop 12-24-2009 08:46 PM

truggy motor and pipe of your chioce guys?
i need run time and power no 28s

Trevor Williams 12-24-2009 09:03 PM

Wesley, Im sure you are totally right on the 086, seems like the 053/086 work on almost all the Novas.........I never thought I would like the 086 on the plus4, but when I Was at the track with Monty and running his strr I ran plus 4 /086 and it was really good.....nice and responsive for sure..we tested a Toro Nero/086 in mp9 buggy that day too.......freaking missile ;)

Chops! Merry Xmas big guy ;)

I really like the plus4 and 9853/41005 Chops.........dialed in truck and buggy, smooth, controllable, good runtime and great power throughout.....seems to be perfect for me but I am trying a 9901/41021 SS with my plus4 I got sitting for buggy this spring............Im thinking its going in a mp9 TKI

what up man? yeah i just need to get chris to ok my deal for next year i did not get to run alot last year.
now to pick out a truck

r1harper 12-24-2009 10:55 PM

I am not saying the plus 4 is not good in truck..but if you want just absolute power with around 9 minute run times there is no other choice. the only little glitch i have with it is clutching it.....it revs or spools up so fast that a heavy clutch is needed. for us if we did not have kyosho 1.1 springs....it would bog just a bit and was not as snappy. others may not have had this hickup, but just wanted to throw that out there.

I have seen an average of more than 9 min. Out of the fms engines .

9853SS/41005, 7mm , 3 kyosho blue shoes , 2-1.1 and 1-1.0mm springs 240 degrees and you will see what the engine can really do.

The fms does not like carbon or plastic shoes .

Use a light clutch shoe made of 6065 or the stuff that justin uses for his clutch shoes , I think its 2041 ? His com.pany is impulse rc

not sure if anyone answered this ...but if you run sidewinder worlds 30 then there is not much difference than byrons 30 ...the lsn will tune a tick leaner with the sidewinder ..i run it and love it ...should be no difference ...the worlds sidewinder is 11 percent oil

T-spoon 12-25-2009 06:25 AM

I'm not a professional but Sidewinder makes a"premium fuel".I would not be concerned about running it in any engine..

vladconnery 12-25-2009 07:02 AM

I run Werks race blend 30%. I like it although I don't see many guys using it. I've had good success with it. I have ran sidewinder I liked it too. Not many people mention the Toro was it a disappointment? Or do you guys find that the other engines plus4 and P5 are just more suitable for your use or driving styles?

srt4s 12-25-2009 11:38 AM

I just put a jp mod novarossi medial pro m2k in my buggy. It seems to have a low to mid bog. Does that mean it is lean on bottom. Top end is good. Temps are at about 220-235.

Thx for the answer Zixxer, just wanted to make sure that Sidewinder is as good as Byron :p

what kind of run time would i be looking at with the P5t and 086 short header combo? wanting to run it instead of plus 4. thanks

"Smiley" 12-27-2009 07:36 PM

Just got back from breaking in my N21R 3 Port. Did the heatcycle meathod (about 30min). Ran it at around 200 with the head wrapped up for 2-3min at a time, then let it cool. Anyways, Once I opened it up, It was awesome. I tried different pipe/header combos, But i'm really happy with the 9886 and Ofna Bent ] Header. It seemed to make the most power and runtime for me. I am a smooth but aggressive driver, So any kind of runtime is fin for me. Ran 3 consecutive tanks, ran out of fuel st 9:50 every time. I also tried out a Novarossi Exhaust Cooler. I was amazed at what it did for the engine. It was getting an extra minute of runtime after I put it on. It also did not bog down at all after fuel stops, Cleared out perfectly every time. I ended the day with 2 more timed runs, Ran out of fuel at 10:45 both times. I'm happy to say the least! :D

I run a p5xs hott mod with the 9886 with a long round header and it rips from bottom to top and temps around 180 to 190 and gets over 10 mins a tank.also a local pro helped me tune it at nitrofest/preworlds in 08 and I havnt touched the needles since and it runs perfect every time.

Inertia 12-28-2009 01:56 AM

Ive got a stock toro nero and want to know what shimming I need on the head button to run on 33% nitro.
tthankss

I run a Toro Nero in my MBX6T and love it... plenty of bottom end snap and nice power all the way thru to full rpm and it really does go well :), Im just getting 10 minutes out of it but im not using the best pipe set up i dont think.. thats using the stock small restrictor

The Toro Nero dont suffer the same bottom end tuning issues/ dificulties that the P4 sometimes do ... I find it holds its tune as good as any and is easy to tune at that

Ill be buying another one as my spare engine i am that impressed and they are excellent value for money

Thanks Dave for your response. I was actually thinking about adding that engine to my line up as well. I've been just thrilled with the Nova's thus far. I've ran quite a few different brands of engines. Most I've been fairly happy with at that. I've made it up in my mind that I'm going to stick with one brand of engines. Just like my I do with my Losi's not saying there the best. I'm just starting to understand in this hobby. Every quality brand is within a close range of quality, power and reliability. What really comes in to play is the drivers actually familiarity with the product. The ease and speed that you can determine whats wrong and how to correct the problem. For that particular brand.

Most drivers problems come from the constant switching of brands. In search of the holy grail of engines and or cars. When the truth is they just need to learn there brand inside and out. :tire::nod::nod::tire:

rc skyline 12-28-2009 06:41 AM

Good points in there

You wont be dissapointed with the Toro, the only other engine i have run that compares was a RBC6BB7T and there just way to dear where as the novas represent proper value for money and highest quality at the same time

Many (well most) guys at my track http://www.lrrcc.com/index.php use novas now and there are heaps of P4,s and 3 or 4 Toros all going strong

When my go tech blew up at 4 litres (as they do) i was going to go Nova or OS and i really think i made the right move.. particuly with the Toro Nero :)

Im hoping to get a long life out of this engine

Dave

r1harper 12-28-2009 07:21 AM

in my opinion...an FMS will out perform a RB C6
