I just ran my buggy w/ FMS and tried the 8mm venturi after having some problems my last race while using 6.5mm.
WAAAAAYYYYYYYYYY TO MUCH POWER. Also ditched the AE fuel tank for the xray tank and my tune stayed consistent til the last drop. Thanks for all the help everyone.

The 7mm restrictor on the FMS is just perfect. And whomever thinks the FMS lacks bottom end must be spinning the tires pretty often. I find if you don't pull the throttle open all the way it hooks up better than if you just blast away.
I like the extra power so I can drive without trying to go full speed everywhere. The FMS just rips and make my race day that much better....
Best engine I've run to date....Still love my P5's though......
It's also super easy to tune.....During the hot days in Texas it runs best around 240-250 degrees. Fine with me......

No dude it was not a dud...The FMS has a very mild bottom compared to the engines we run... One day have Nid throw the 2013 back on his modified B5 and take it for a spin yourself, then come back and tell me how the bottom of your FMS compares afterward...drive em both back to back like I have and I challenge you to say any different then I am...... ... Not trying to knock the FMS its a nice engine, but its bottom end is very soft by my standards...sorry to say that but its the truth, not only does it show on the ground, it also shows on the dyno..The FMS has 187 degrees of exhaust timing and is based off a onroad engine design, you can't expect it to have a pile of bottom with that design and high exhaust timing, its not possible....Not saying its bad by any means, its just a characteristic.....To some its obviously more then enough bottom, but for others it is not enough....all personal preference ! if your happy with it thats all the matters....

Its all relative to what your used to my friend....To me the FMS is soft down low, and I am not the only one to think so....
In the end the stock FMS is shimmed safely to run 40% nitro, the stock compression ratio is very low...they can be run very safely with a total of .6 mm shims on 30%, which also helps bring up the bottom end..Tho at .6 mm the OD plugs may not be working so well as they do not tolerate higher compression that well....
in the end different strokes for different folks..I didn't want to post here again, but I figured the situation warranted one last post to explain my side .....

Actuallly , the fms loves 40% nitro
I think the key words in your statement were "not up to your standards" , and I will never dispute that the engines you prefer to work on have more than enough low end, some would say lightswitchish . If that's what makes you run faster lap times then so be it , I prefer an engine that will no create too much wheelspin and has "useable" power .
Happy motorin',
Monty
And don't forget how important pipesets are on these cute little engines

Coming from a string of p5's I will admit I was a bit worried that the FMS would be mostly mid to top end, but after listening to other racers, it had excellent reviews, I decided to give it a try. Wow. It really depends on so many variables.
Pipe Header combo 9853 short round header wow, 9886 a bit smoother w same header....
Gearing, my 808 is just slightly higher than say a mugen with stock gears on both. A 13 tooth bell on a Mugen buggy is all you would need on an fms, but a p5 could use a 14 tooth just to smooth out the torque and add some top end. My 808 has a 16 tooth stock which sounds high, but actually it's just slightly high due to the other gear ratios in the driveline. So what I'm saying is the pipe could stay the same in buggy and just changine one tooth on the bell would tailor the power to the size of the track and the engine better than changing pipes in some cases....
Fuel 25% byrons is all I need. I add 30ml of castor oil to make the total oil content around 11.5% up from 11%.....I really never saw the need to up the nitro, and I don't like low oil content. 9% is just pushing the engine too hard...
Driving style Some guys drive smooth and careful, well kinda, and could use a monster like the FMS to push it a bit more, or a more aggressive gear and pipe combo, or larger venturi... and some guys might drive punched all day long. I think a p5 with a 9886 pipe and short round header might work better for them to keep the tires on the ground and reduce wheelspin, or a plus 4 with a filled crank....
So before they blame the engine, lets listen to the vast majority who absolutely love the FMS in buggy and truggy.
I bet an FMS Monty tuned version would make the car fly into the stratosphere.....I heas nothing but great things about his engines, and he always knows just what to say....Your advice is much appriciated by the Nova fans.....

Keep motoring on Monty......

regardless I was just saying if i was running a FMS in a Truggy I would increase the compression the give it a bit more low end snap ( thats my tuning advice on it, take it for what it is)...After trying the FMS I felt it needed improvement in the low end, its top end is fantastic...if i were to modify the FMS it would be aimed at getting the engine into its powerband earlier... On the B5 I modify to extend the powerband deeper into the RPM range....

Why is there a subject on werks engines, And engine mods here?? I think this should be kept to novarossi. And Montys Info and customer sevice is one of the best by far
Just my oppinion !!

LOL now where did I questions Monty's service ? why even bother to say such things and insinuate I am ?...nothing like putting words in my mouth bro !
I butted in and offered a little tip on tuning the FMS in a Truggy.... everyone then started almost getting defensive from my posts so I attempted to clarify myself as to not be misinterpreted, nothing more, nothing less..... Honestly I regret even bothering now.....I tried to be as peaceful and respectful as possible, but some people are not interested in hearing another view if it doesn't quite match their own.. Sorry guys the bottom end on the FMS doesn't impress me much, and I am not the only one who will say that... So i see no harm in suggesting running a little higher compression to help the bottom end out a little, which is what seems to have offended so many.....talk about accidentally stirring up a angry bee's nest ! definitely not my intention at all...but some will read into things what they want to read into it !
Monty dude ! once again I apologize for butting in, I was worried crap like this would happen, and unfortunately even against my greatest efforts it has... cheers dude !
no harm intended at all !

Give Maximo a break please...JMO...
I don't think it's a big deal...We're all racing for fun right, it's cool to have new imput, even if we all don't run the same stuff, we can learn from each other.....
